Air pollution is a very serious problem Air pollution is a very serious problem. 600 cities of Russia have dirty air. More and more factories, electric power stations, cars and trucks add their bad breath to the air. In many big cities air is filled with “smog”. AIR POLLUTION

The air looks brown. Every year world industry pollutes the atmosphere with about 1000 million tons of dust and other harmful substances. One locomotive pollutes the air as much as 40-50 cars do. Polluted air is bad not only for people and animals, but for trees and plants.

Acid rain When plants burn coal to make electricity, and when cars burn gasoline, invisible gases get into the air. Sometimes the gases get into rain clouds, where they mix with rain or snow. It is called acid rain. Acid rain is very harmful to plants, rivers and lakes, forests. Also, the wind blows the air around. So, sulfates from one place can fall as acid rain many miles away.

If nothing is done about it, one day nothing will be able to live in the seas and rivers.

There is no life without water There is no life without water. Man can live without clothes, without shelter, and even for some time without food. Without water he soon dies.

Land pollution Land pollution is also a common problem worldwide. There are a number of major sources of land pollution, not counting the general litter and trash. Among these major sources are burial sources, insecticides and pesticides, construction wastes, human waste, herbicides, and mining waste. They are designed to kill animals, to pollute forests, to poison rivers and lakes, to destroy atmosphere.

Littering Littering is one of the most important environmental problems of today. Each person throws away 1,8 kg of trash daily. In Russia 10% of rubbish are recycled, 90% of waste are dumped annually. Litter lasts long it is harmful to wildlife. It can kill or hurt farm animals. Bottles and cans cause cuts, and the animals can eat polythene bags and die, or put their heads in them and suffocate.

So, dear world, you may be covered with dirt and gasping for air.

Deforestation Deforestation has become big problem around the globe. People cut the trees down because they need wood and paper or new places for farms and houses. Forests the size of Belgium are destroyed every year. It’s an international disaster.

Without our forests, our defense against global warming and climate change will be completely broken. To save our planet we definitely need to save our forests.

Endangered animals Why are so many endangered animals across the world? Forests are cut down. Animals have no place to live and they begin to disappear forever. Besides people kill animals for their fur, bones, skin. People catch butterflies, birds, small animals.

What happens in your country? Fires The forests are cut down. When the forests disappear, Many animals are disturbed. Many trees are cut down for building. Most of the countryside is spoiled. A lot of rivers and lakes are polluted. Sea animals are hurt. Air pollution is not reduced.

Code of ecological rules Walk or ride a bike whenever possible. Try not to waste energy. Turn off lights and other electrical equipment when not in use. Repair leaking taps. Using 3 R’s (recycle, reuse, reduce). Don’t throw away things which you can reuse. Write on both sides of paper. Use mugs or glasses instead of paper cups. Do not drop rubbish in the streets because it looks horrible. Always put garbage in a garbage bin. Don’t throw garbage in water. Save water. To clear rubbish from lakes and rivers. Spend clean-up days

Never draw or paint on the trees. Don’t cut young trees. Plant flowers and trees. Never draw or paint on the trees. Don’t cut young trees. Don’t break the branches of trees and bushes. Don’t drop litter or leave it in the forest. Don’t make fires in the forest. Don’t hurt animals. Feed birds in winter. Hand bird- houses and bird- feeders to give food to birds all year round. To design posters telling people about ecological problems of the day and put them all over the countryside. Such as: don’t kill animals, don’t destroy houses of animals, etc.
