My Thoughts

Connecting to the Text Text – Text / Movie Text – Self Text – Society Does the story remind you of anything else you have read? Text – Self How do you personally relate to the text? Text – Society What social issues does the text address?

Relating to the Text Questions Find a piece of the text that you can relate to. Text to Text, Text to Self or Text to Society. Tell in your own words what happened. Create a question that will evoke the person who is answering to give an in depth answer.

Should people be given a second chance? 2:14 Text Self Text Society The Prince announces to his parents that his first official proclamation as king will be to bring the children from The Isle of the Lost to live in the United States of Auradon. Belle wants to hear him out, she tells the King that she gave him a second chance. What do you think? Second Chance? Should people be given a second chance? Does your answer depend on what they’ve done? What about a third, fourth….chance? Is there anything that is so horrific that a second chance should not be given? What about people that break the laws?

Do you do things for each other? Text Self The parents of the main characters depend on them to care for them. They seem to have very one sided relationships. Talk about your relationship with your parents. Responsibility Do you do things for each other? What things are your parents responsibilities? What things are your responsibility? Why is there a transfer of responsibility as you grow older? When you do household chores are you doing something ‘for’ your parents? 13:26

Actions Speak Louder than Words! People have been treating Mal, Evie, Jay and Carlos in a way that makes it clear how they feel. Their actions are sending clear messages. Has anyone ever made you feel uncomfortable by the way they have treated you? What happened? Have you ever had to try to be nice to someone when you really didn’t want to be? Do you think they knew how you really felt? Tell me about it.

Destiny VS Freewill Malifecent says to Mal “It is not for us to question. This was pre-ordained!” Do you believe you have free will or that everything that happens is fate? Has your future been mapped out already? Do you control your own behaviour? Do you have choices? What kind of choices do you make for yourself? Who or what determines how you behave? Tell me what you think?

In this scene of the movie Mal and Jay are acting like bullies, Evie and Carlos act more like by-standers or followers and Jane like the victim. Have you ever acted like a bully, victim or bystander? Can someone be all three of these? Have you ever been in a situation where you have acted like any of these three?
