FIELD TRIP REQUIREMENTS REF 2111.0 – FIELD TRIP HANDBOOK Type of Field Trip Activities & Site on Pre-approved List? Trip must be approved by Routine Yes School Principal Non-Routine - Overnight - Out-of-State No Local District (E,W,S,NE, NW, or Central) Risk Management (some trips may require review or inspection by Office of Environmental Health & Safety or the Outdoor Education unit in Beyond the Bell Out-of-Country Local District Office Board of Education (delegated to Superintendent)

APPROVED FIELD TRIP SITE LIST Site meets: District safety standards District criteria for field trip activities (Board Rule 2379) The trip has educational, social, or cultural value The trip has been through the appropriate approval process Sufficient funding is available and the trip is free of cost to the student Sufficient supervision is available (1:10 ratio) The trip is accessible to all students REF 2111.0 – FIELD TRIP HANDBOOK

OVERNIGHT FIELD TRIPS & OVERNIGHT ATHLETIC EVENTS For Field Trips Attach a complete itinerary Provide a copy of any brochures, flyers or descriptions of the site The School must purchase overnight field trip insurance for the trip Student list with birthdates Signed trip slips Submit request to the Local District If approved, the Local District submits to Risk Management for review For Athletic Events: Attach invitation letters Attach conference forms Attach Approval to Participate in the Tournament from the Athletics Office If approved, the Local District submits to Risk Management for review

FIELD TRIPS: UNAUTHORIZED NOT APPROVED BY THE DISTRICT The District assumes no responsibility or liability whatsoever for the trip. All liability and responsibility for the trip are shared by the outside organization and the parent who allowed the child to attend. Parents should receive in writing a disclaimer that the District assumes no liability in connection with the trip. Any teacher participating in an unauthorized field trip must be informed in writing that he/she participates in his/her personal capacity and not as a District employee. (no coverage for personal liability or Worker’s Compensation) (sample letters can be found in the Fieldtrip Handbook – REF 2111.0 – pgs 56-58)
