A Review of Apps & Strategies for Converting and Accessing Print and Digital Material Felicia J. Arce M.Ed

Agenda Research Print Disability and Accessible Educational Materials Dedicated Apps What to do when apps don’t work. Using these tools to support education and employment References

Research “The iPad is useful with students with disabilities because some of the applications within the iPad will replace older, bulkier, and more expensive forms of assistive technology” (Retter, Anderson, and Kieran, 2013, p. 448). The portability of assistive technology and the autonomy of using an iPad™ extends students and individuals with print disabilities learning beyond school and creating a more accessible environment (Retter et al., 2013).

Research “The National Center for Education Statistics (2000) reported that students with disabilities graduating from college demonstrate employment rates and yearly salaries comparable to their colleagues without disabilities” (Floyd & Judge, 2012, p. 48). Using an iPad™ and apps can be individualized for an employee's job duties, tasks and reminders without depending on others and creating more independence (Hill, et al., 2013).
