Cloud-Based Process Planning for CNC Code Generation Sanjay Joshi, Dan Finke (PSU) Automating the generation of NC Code offers a significant reduction in NRE costs Use geometric reasoning to identify machining features. Develop knowledge-based rules to determine setups and machining parameters. Interface with CAM software to develop tool paths Initial development has begun. This project will focus on the process planning and cloud implementation portions of the tool. A significant amount of non-recurring engineering time is spent developing machining process plans and NC code. A service that automatically generates the process plan, tool paths, and parameters enables manufacturing engineers to create optimized code for small lots. Automated NC Generation software that can be invoked locally or in a cloud environment that will significantly reduce the non-recurring engineering time and improve the efficiency of the machining process plan. Cloud-based analysis enables increased processing, anytime analysis, and integration with multiple design tools. Integration, Intelligence Computer Aided Manufacturing Tools: MasterCAM DelCAM ShopCAM 3 – Proof of concept developed (DARPA AVM) 5 – Validation in relevant environment Proposed 10% Current computer aided manufacturing (CAM) tools require a human to develop the process plan and most machining parameters to develop optimal machining plan. Process knowledge and human intervention Inefficient process for small lot production Designers do not have access to machining information Identifies setups for 3 Axis machines Includes tool selection algorithm Identifies infeasible designs Design (detailed) – Tool could be extended to provide complexity, cost, and lead time feedback to designers. Rapid Prototyping – quickly generate machining process plans for rapid turn around.
