Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (FGPS) Established in 1967 Engaged in developing the regulations and procedures pertaining to all graduate programs. Manages scholarships, registration, doctoral thesis, postdoctoral research scholarships and other academic processes, and provides expertise and advice to faculties regarding academic and registrar area. Awards office: Offers information sessions on graduate scholarships Submits scholarship applications to external agencies Provides consulting expertise to faculties, departments and students. Internal Scholarships and Financial Support

Admission Scholarships For Canadian Citizens and Permanent Residents MASTER’S WITH THESIS : $30,000 FOR 2 YEARS $7,500 per year paid by the FGPS (applied directly to your student account, $2,500 per session) and; A minimum matching component of $7,500* per year offered by the Academic Unit in form of Assistantships (TA’s or RA’s), internal scholarships or soft-funded bursaries MASTER’S WITH RESEARCH PAPER : $15,000 FOR 1 YEAR REQUIREMENTS Admission GPA of at least 8,0/10 Recommendation of the Academic Unit You must register full-time and maintain this status for the duration of the scholarship *Several academic units offer more financial support than the minimum indicated. International Scholarships Full International Scholarship : $22,500 per year (max. 2yrs) $15,000 from FGPS (applied directly to your student account, $5,000 per session) A minimum matching component of $7,500* per year offered by the Academic Unit in form of Assistantships (TA’s or RA’s) internal scholarships or soft-funded bursaries Partial international scholarship : $15,000 per year (max. 2 yrs) $7,500 from FGPS (applied directly to your student account, $2,500 per session) A matching component of $7,500* per year offered by the Academic Unit in form of Assistantships (TA’s or RA’s), internal scholarships or soft-funded bursaries Requirements : Admission GPA of at least 8,0/10 Each Faculty is allocated a quota (limited budget) You must register full-time and maintain this status for the duration of the scholarship Note: These scholarships are awarded for one year or two years the same way the Admissions Scholarships are awarded to Canadian Citizens and Permanent Residents. Several academic units offer more financial support than the minimum indicated

Excellence Scholarship Awarded for the duration of the external award This scholarship will replace the Admission Scholarship Awarded to recipients of major external awards : CIHR, FRQ, NSERC, OGS, QEII-GSST, SSHRC Amount* will be credited to your student account There is no guarantee of a matching component from the academic units (however, many academic units continue with the matching component) *Currently under review

Other FGPS Funding Sources Research Travel Grants* (up to $550) The FGPS recognizes that graduate students in the pursuit of research for their thesis is important. For this purpose, the FGPS offers them grants for travel outside the city which allows the direct collection of data for a thesis in progress. Conference travel grants* (up to $550) Available to eligible students who wish to present the results of their research at a professional conference. http://www.grad.uottawa.ca/Default.aspx?tabid=1471 *Only for students registered in a thesis based program

External Scholarships

Who – What – Where – When – Why Students with a GPA of 8.0/10 (A-) and above Academic Merit Scholarships Via appropriate portals 8-16 months before the beginning of your program of studies Substantial amounts – 15 000 $ minimum for one year

Being well prepared Identify 2 professors who will write you excellent letters of recommendation You will need to provide a research proposal or; if your program is non-research based you will need to identify the relevant courses, provide an explanation of your choice and outline your special interests in the proposed area of studies if the output of your program is an artistic creation rather than a thesis, you will need to indicate the research component of your proposed work Many Faculties will offer workshops, mentors, information sessions, etc. to help you to write a research proposal and prepare your application Check the FGPS website regularly starting in Mid-August for up-to date information on application processes, deadlines and possible information and chat sessions that will be offered Add to your agenda the deadlines – the deadlines are firm

Provincial Scholarships

ONTARIO QUÉBEC Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS) Fonds de recherche du Québec sur la société et la culture (FRQ - SC) Fonds de recherche du Québec de la nature et technologie (FRQ - NT) Fonds de recherche du Québec en santé (FRQ-S)

Ontario Graduate Scholarship (OGS) Value : $15,000 + Excellence Scholarships if attending the uOttawa Duration : One year (non-renewable: you must apply every year) May be held during the first 6 sessions (2 yrs) of a master’s program (you must apply 8-12 months prior of the funding beginning) Minimum GPA of 8.0/10 (A-) Each university in Ontario receiving an OGS allocation administers the entire OGS application process and granting of OGS awards. Each university establishes their own deadlines OGS awards are not transferable between universities OGS awards are not transferable between faculties at UO You must submit an OGS application to each Ontario university with whom you are seeking admission to a graduate program You do not need to be a resident of Ontario - Citizenship: be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, protected person (under subsection 95(2) of the Immigration and Refugee Protections Act (Canada)), temporary resident visa or student study permit at the time of the OGS application deadline. uOttawa APPLICATION DEADLINE : December 1st

Tri-Agency - CGS – M DEADLINE: December 1 Value: $17,500 for one year (non-renewable) Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada Have completed, as of December 31 of the year of application, between zero and 12 months of full-time studies (or equivalent) in: The master’s program for which you are requesting funding; or The doctoral program for which you are requesting funding if you were admitted into a doctoral program directly from your bachelor’s program; or A master’s program, but are requesting funding for a doctoral program (an example is a student who is fast-track from master’s to a doctoral program within 12 months of starting their Master’s and is seeking funding for the first 12 months of their doctoral program Must have a minimum GPA of 8.0/10 (A-) in each of the last two years of full-studies Not have previously held a CGS M Be enrolled in, have applied for, or will apply for full-time admission to an eligible graduate program (by the deadline for their intended graduate program or by March 15 following the deadline of applying for the funding, whichever comes first) at the master’s or doctoral level at a Canadian institution with a CGS M allocation DEADLINE: December 1
