Presentation transcript:

Bullying

Bullying Facts Did you know that 66 percent of school-aged children are teased? The most common reason cited for being harassed is a student's appearance or body size. 2 out of 5 teens feel that they are bullied because of the way that they look. 9 out of 10 LGBT youth reported being verbally harassed at school in the past year because of their sexual orientation. A victim of bullying is twice as likely to take his or her own life compared to someone who is not a victim One out of 10 students drop out of school because they are bullied.

Different types of bullying Cyberbullying Physical bullying Verbal bullying

Cyberbullying Cyberbullying is a type of bullying that happens online or through text messages or emails. It includes posting rumors on sites like Facebook, sharing embarrassing pictures or videos, and making fake profiles or websites.

Physical bullying Includes any physical contact that would hurt or injure a person like hitting, kicking, punching, etc. Taking something that belongs to someone else and destroying it would also be considered a type of physical bullying. For example, if someone was walking down the street and someone came up to them and shoved them to the ground, that would be physical bullying.

Verbal bullying Verbal bullying is name-calling, making offensive remarks, or joking about a person's religion, gender, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, or the way they look. For example, if there was a group of kids who made fun of another kid because he couldn't run as fast as everyone else, it would be an example of verbal bullying
