Review Content Specific Technology Uses Content Area Ideas for Technology Tools/ Software - Projects/ Activities Describe what “idea” you found useful. Include any websites or other resource names as necessary. Tell why you think this is a great idea for instruction! English/ Language Arts A great technology integration strategy for classrooms that students can benefit from are websites that offer practice in letter and letter sounds. One website that I found that has a lot of variety in these exercises is www.readwritethink.org. One activity that I found very helpful for younger students is the Construct a word activity that allows the students to first chose the ending of a word and then adding the letters to the beginning. Math A fun technology integrations strategy for teachers of preschool students to use is the website www.pbs.org/teachers. You are able to select several activities for the students. There are videos as well as interactive activities. It is important to start teaching preschool children math so that they have a strong base when entering Kindergarten. Science www.polleverywhere.com is a great website to use in a Science based lesson plan. The students are able to use their cell phones as their clicker (this way the school does not have to invest in expensive equipment) and the teacher is able to see in real time how well the students are grasping the information the teacher is going over. Social Studies Virtual fields trips are a fantastic option for schools in that students are now able to visit places that they may not otherwise have the opportunity to. Additionally field trips especially if there is significant distance involved can be very prices. This is where the virtual field trips come in. One website that is great for virtual field trips is Http://interactive.nfb.com/#/thisland You can chose different languages, different genres such as animated film, children’s films, documentaries, etc. How wonderful that students can not experience different cultures and landscapes! Music & Art There are so many great opportunities for students to fund their musical and artistic passion through technology. One great site for blossoming musicians is Apple’s Garage band. Through this app students can record their music or make podcasts. There is even a function that allows the student to take music lessons through downloadable instructions. A technology tool that can be used in art is adobe photoshop, www.adobe.com. The website allows students to add pictures to brochures and newsletters, with great quality. Physical Education & Health It seems that these days we are seeing more and more obese children. It is important for us to help children find ways to exercise and know the importance of how it positively affects your health. Two websites that I found very helpful are http://kidshealth.org and www.kids.gov. Each of these sites offers useful information on how to get healthy, stay healthy, and activities that students can do to stay active. Special Education There are so many technology options available today to special education students than there were even ten years ago. One device that I found very interesting was on the website http://www.freedomscientific.com. There are two devices that can be used together, they are the OpenBook and Pearl. These are a scanning and reading system. They convert printed materials to speech or Braille output to a computer. This would allow a child who is blind to participate more in a traditional classroom setting.
