This course is all about: Drawing and painting Art History: the historical time period of the Renaissance (1400 – 1500’s) right through to the Neoclassic movement (1800’s). (During these four hundred years artists became terrific at drawing and painting people and objects.) Art History…

The work you do this year is important because: It’s the background for the next two courses in this series, Advanced Painting and Drawing and AP Studio Art. In AP Studio you will actually decide on your own projects and choose your own media. But you have to learn to walk before you can run. Your Future in Art….

You can’t create in a vacuum. You need to LEARN about art: Therefore there will be some lessons and assignments about art and art history. You are expected to take notes on lectures and demonstrations in your sketch book You will have written assignments You will have drawing assignments as homework You will be required to participate in and attend the High School Art Show in May. This is part of your final exam grade Requirements

You will, of course, be expected to follow the MHS expectations of : Be Responsible (for your work, your materials and the art room), Be Proud of all you do in here! And…… Behavior….

Don’t miss out on any work time by being late to class Display how smart you are by completing work to the best of your ability Keep your good reputation by doing your own work Since how you speak demonstrates your intelligence and character, make sure your language is appropriate for school

Procedures Knowing what to do and when to do it! Please come to class on time and put your belongings on the shelves provided. Get your portfolio, your project and your supplies and sit in your assigned seat. Start working as soon as possible! NO CELL PHONE USE, HEADPHONES, food or drink in class. (school policy) Please don’t make me be the cell phone police! Listen carefully whenever directions, demonstrations or teacher comments occur. Ask permission to use the lavatory and sign out and in on the sheet provided. Clean up when given the signal to do so. Clean your desk and your equipment. Store your work carefully. Stay in your seat until I dismiss you.

Other Items of Interest… Sketchbooks, drawing and painting media and a portfolio will be provided. If you have trouble meeting your due dates for projects you may come in after school on Studio Hour nights or any other night with special arrangements. You may also come in during any study hall.
