Giving Up Your Right Eye 1 Sam. 11

Giving In to Get What You Want 1 Samuel 11:1 (NKJV) 1 …all the men of Jabesh said to Nahash, “Make a covenant with us, and we will serve you.”

Giving In to Get What You Want 1 Samuel 11:2 (NKJV) 2 And Nahash the Ammonite answered them, “On this condition I will make a covenant with you, that I may put out all your right eyes, and bring reproach on all Israel.”

Giving In to Get What You Want 1 Samuel 11:3 (NKJV) 3 Then the elders of Jabesh said to him, “Hold off for seven days, that we may send messengers to all the territory of Israel. And then, if there is no one to save us, we will come out to you.”

Giving In to Get What You Want Exodus 23:31–32 (NKJV) 31 …I will set your bounds from the Red Sea to the sea, Philistia, and from the desert to the River. For I will deliver the inhabitants of the land into your hand, and you shall drive them out before you. 32 You shall make no covenant with them, nor with their gods.

Taking a Stand 1 Samuel 11:7 (NKJV) 7 So he took a yoke of oxen and cut them in pieces, and sent them throughout all the territory of Israel by the hands of messengers, saying, “Whoever does not go out with Saul and Samuel to battle, so it shall be done to his oxen.” And the fear of the Lord fell on the people, and they came out with one consent.

Two Types of People Those who are willing to have their right eye put out… And those who are willing to take a stand against sin!

The extent to which God requires obedience: 2 Samuel 24:24 (NKJV) 24 Then the king said to Araunah, “No, but I will surely buy it from you for a price; nor will I offer burnt offerings to the Lord my God with that which costs me nothing.” So David bought the threshing floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver.

The extent to which God requires obedience: Matthew 10:22 (NKJV) 22 …you will be hated by all for My name’s sake. But he who endures to the end will be saved.

The extent to which God requires obedience: Revelation 2:10 (NKJV) 10 Do not fear any of those things which you are about to suffer. Indeed, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and you will have tribulation ten days. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.

The extent to which God requires obedience: Matthew 5:29 (NKJV) 29 If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell.
