Class Rules

1. Follow directions – the first time.

2. Use manners and give respect, all the time MANNERS & RESPECT COST YOU NOTHING

3. Raise your hand before speaking or leaving your seat

4. Keep hands, feet & objects to yourself.

Day 1: In your composition book 2 3 # every page on the outside top edge of the page Instructions go on the inside cover The first four pages will be reserved for the Table of Contents Page 5 Reserved for the “Historical Thinking Chart” On page 6, you will place the signed class syllabus folded in half and attaching it to the inside of page 6 with tape or glue. On page 7 will go your first assignment – Your snapshot autobiography—Homework for Day 1

Day 2 Thinking like a historian – what is history? Classwork: Lunchroom Fight, Part 1 Then, Lunchroom Fight, Part 2 Homework: Snapshot Autobiography, Part 2

Day 3 – NC Geography Intro Take notes over the NC 5 themes of Geography Powerpoint beginning on p. 9 of your INB Complete the NC 5 themes flip page, placing it after your notes

Day 4 – Map Work Complete the questions for each map in the map powerpoint. Use the Map Exercise Questions Complete the “Lay of the Land” discussion sheet.

Day 5 – Myth, Mindset and Encounters How does myth create world view? How did the world views of the different groups coming together in NC create challenges to understanding one another? View creation myth cycles ( www.bigmyth.com ) for three groups and complete the myth chart. Cherokee = Iroquois European = Old Testament African = Yoruba Hwk: Write a 1-3 page narrative story (in the next page of your INB) of an encounter between at least 2 people, each from one of the different groups we’ve looked at. How would they see the world differently? How would they communicate with one another having such different world views?
