Scope Who we are Defence Investment in Gliders The Structure of AAFC Gliding Nationally Defence Airworthiness Requirements Defence Commitment to GFA AAFC Gliding Operations Youth Development Working together

Who We Are The Australian Air Force Cadets (AAFC) is a youth development organisation that is administered & actively supported by the Royal Australian Air Force. Footprint ~7000 cadets and ~1000 staff in 8 State based Wings at over 160 locations. Mission Statement Develop Australian youth in a military and aviation environment. AAFC Aims: To give cadets a foundation of Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) knowledge and discipline To develop qualities of leadership, self-reliance and initiative To develop character and good citizenship in the widest sense To develop an interest in the RAAF and aviation generally To instil a knowledge of aviation history, and To encourage cadets to continue an active interest in aviation into their adult life.

Youth Development The aim of the Australian Air Force Cadets as part of the ADF Cadet experience, is to better equip young people for community life by fostering: Initiative; Leadership; Discipline, and Loyalty Through training programs which are also designed to stimulate an interest in a particular arm of the ADF.

Defence Investment CAF has purchased & will deploy 19 Gliders nationally: 8 DG 1001c conventional gliders 11 ASK 21Mi self launch gliders Also invested: Cadet Flying Scholarships $5m in a purpose built facility at Bathurst NSW Major facilities at Warwick in QLD More to come in other States

AAFC Gliding Structure AAFC aspires to establish GFA affiliated Gliding Flights (clubs) to operate gliders in: North QLD (Charters Towers) SE QLD (Warwick) NSW (Bathurst) VIC (Point Cook) SA (Edinburgh) WA (Narrogin)

Defence Airworthiness Defence Airworthiness requirements are more encompassing than GFA’s. In Defence it includes: Pilot Standards (incl. Instructor Competency) Aircraft Maintenance Standards (When, Where, How, By Whom & to what standard) Risk Management Occupational Health & Safety (COMCARE) Most Importantly - we must work to a structured Governance Framework acceptable to Defence Note: Only ADF & AAFC personnel can fly RAAF gliders

Defence Commitment to GFA Will operate under the GFA construct with RAAF Airworthiness oversight. GFA membership. IAW GFA Operations Manual. Both Maintenance and Operations. Develop: AAFC Syllabus & Training notes (CBT based). Lesson Plans. Training reports & Pilot Records. Made available to GFA on completion. Grow: Instructors. Fleet in the future to match numbers.

AAFC Gliding Activities Cadet Aviation Experience (AE flights in gliders). Aim is for every cadet to fly once per year. Pilot Experience (PEX = TIFs). Flight Training to C Certificate. Instructor - Training, Standardisation and Development. Simulation to be developed. ** Instructors welcome (on the AAFC books) **

Working Together Cooperatively: Raising GFA numbers. National standardisation (CBT transferable knowledge). Training pilots suited to a Defence/Commercial Aviation Career. School based recognition (year 12) of a Gliding Qualification. Growing Australia’s aviation industry. Future-proof gliding for Australia.
