FP2020 Reference Group Priority actions for 2016 Progress on Commitments New or Updated Commitments & Priority Actions to Drive Progress to 2020 Institutional: BMGF is on track to exceed the 2012 commitment of investing $140M/year for a total of $1B. In 2015, we increased our financial commitment by $120M to invest further in three areas: (1) scaling up family planning in urban areas; (2) increasing access through investing in the private sector; (3) doubling down on advocacy. The investments in these areas are now in place. Key areas of progress include: expanding method mix, strengthening quality of service delivery, improving measurement & data for decision making, and increasing access to young people.   Individual: Increasingly use voice to champion FP2020 on the global stage (Women Deliver, WHA, UNGA), in meetings with other donors (GFF) and government officials, and foundation leadership Institutional: BMGF is committing to advancing our understanding of the barriers that may be preventing progress and to identify specific actions that can be taken. These include: last mile supply chain, reaching the post pregnancy population, improving the quality of counseling, follow-up care on discontinuation, and a larger emphasis on youth. Individual: Committing to closer collaboration between the BMGF team, FP2020 and core conveners. In the last few months, great strides have been made in aligning our work streams, and we will continue to prioritize this alignment. Notes: Roll-out of three new contraceptive options: injectables, progesterone only pills (POPs) and Ormeloxifene (non-hormonal weekly pill: centchroman – Indian brand) in the public health system. At present, India is in the process of rolling out injectables once the branding and packaging for the injectables is finalized. Current status: waiting for GoI to provide a waiver to finalize both the outer packaging labeling and the inside labeling of the vial. No lead time provided for when this will finalized during the FP call… Scaling up national logistics management information system (LMIS) for contraceptives Status update: Scaling up of the LMIS – in the process of scaling up in Rajasthan state. Since health is a state subject, not all states are interested in developing an LMIS just for contraceptives. Developing LMIS aligns well with the global priority of strengthening supply chains and effective data utilization. Availability of LMIS data will allow decision makers to determine: when to order, how much to order, total consumption, and available stock. Having a robust LMIS will lead itself to effective logistics data utilization. National family planning communication campaign for changing social norms and bringing visibility to family planning programming A communication package was launched at the summit with Mr. Amitabh Bachchan as the brand ambassador. The package consists of short films, audio spots and posters with messages targeting various members in the family. The FP communication package emphasized on age at marriage, delaying and spacing of births and responsibilities of both partners and the family in family planning. Rebranding and repackaging public sector commodities to make them more appealing to the consumers.. June 29-30, 2016 Reference Group meeting, London
