College Search/Recruitment You need to be very active in your college search. Do not wait for someone to contact you. Go online…Email or call coaches at schools that you feel will be a fit for you from an athletic and academic standpoint. Start as early as possible (by Junior year). Consult with your coaches. Make sure you take the SAT by Spring of your junior year. https://www.khanacademy.org/mission/sat

Parent/Coach Communication If you have things you want to discuss with a coach, the best way would be to email/call the coach and set up a time to meet if necessary. Trying to talk to the coach immediately following a game is not usually the best time. Things OK to discuss with the coach: Child’s progress/ ways to help the child improve (academically and/or athletically) Health/Injury concerns Fundraising/financial issues related to the team Things not OK to discuss with the coach: Playing time Strategy

Expectations of Student-Athletes As a member of an athletic team at Surrattsville, you now not only represent yourself, but your coaches, your teammates, and your school. You need to realize that your decisions and actions will not just affect you, but all of the people that you are representing.

Expectations of Student-Athletes Get to school/class on time Be prepared for your classes Dress appropriately Watch your language Treat everyone with respect (teachers, classmates, coaches, teammates; anyone you come in contact with) Do not present yourself, your team, or your school in an embarrassing light

On the Field Expectations Play hard and play smart Show respect for all officials and coaches Display good sportsmanship at all times. Keep your composure Trash talk is unnecessary (just play) Do not retaliate Be humble…people will recognize when you do something well. If you have to tell people how good you are, you probably aren’t.
