ROME Caput mundi Rome is a capital city of Italy and Lazio region and it is located on Tiber river. According to Roman mythology, it was founded in 753BC. Today, it is one of the largest cities in EU. Rome is one of the most popular destinations, thanks to its history and artistic treasures. There are many aqueducts, churches, historical buildings, monuments etc. It is the third most visited city in Europe, after London and Paris.

Much like the rest of Italy, Rome is Roman Catholic, and it has been an important centre of religion for centuries. Rome is home to Vatican City and St Peter’s Basilica and around 900 churches.

It is interesting that Vatican City, an independent country was built in Rome. It is the seat of the papacy. Saint Peter’s Square is separated from the territory of Italy only by white line. It is also famous for St Peter’s Basilica, Apostolic Palace, Sistine Chapel etc. Papal liturgies and ceremonies usually take place here, so it is one of the holiest sites of Catholic Tradition. It is a building of extraordinary proportions, more than 200 meters long with almost infinite number of masterpieces. St Peter’s Basilica
