Research Question: Is U Research Question: Is U.S funding of International Planned Parenthood necessary?

Subtopic 1: Recent Policy Regarding IPPF Two sources from Critical Source Analyis’ to include- http://www.cnsnews.com/news/article/patrick-goodenough/intl-abortion-providers-say-they-will-not-comply-reinstated-us http://www.npr.org/sections/goatsandsoda/2017/01/23/511246176/trump-bans-u-s-funding-for-groups-that-promote-abortion-overseas

For Subtopic one: Congress moving ahead with plans to cut Medicaid payments, grant money to Planned Parenthood Joshua Gillin This source is evidently Conservative. I could tell because of words used and the support of Trump’s actions and beliefs. -"As far as Planned Parenthood is concerned, I'm pro-life. I'm totally against abortion, having to do with Planned Parenthood," – Trump -"I would defund it because of the abortion factor, which they say is 3 percent. I don't know what percentage it is. They say it's 3 percent. But I would defund it, because I'm pro-life. But millions of women are helped by Planned Parenthood.” –Trump -This article explains why Trump and other conservatives feel like Planned Parenthood should not be funded. -This source allows my argument to grow stronger because I know what people would refute with.

-and now, 2/3 of people rely on public programs such as Medicaid For Subtopic one: The Fight to Defund Planned Parenthood has very little to do with abortions Rebecca Harrington This source is biased to a liberal’s perspective, you can tell by reading the first few sentences. -When planned parenthood is defunded, patients will have to pay everything out of pocket -and now, 2/3 of people rely on public programs such as Medicaid -Only 3% of planned parenthood’s services are towards abortion This source allows me to argue that defunding planned parenthood for the reason of being pro-life is not valid, because only 3% of their service is abortion.

Subtopic two: What does IPPF do?

For Subtopic two: International Planned Parenthood- How we work -Funding by donations and grants -Provide education, contraception, support to women around the world -reproductive rights advocacy -Innovative service delivery Answers questions on what their mission is.

-The statement that 30% of women use PP is proved false. For subtopic two: Cutting Planned Parenthood funding is not the disaster we’ve made it out to be John Graber -This source is extremely conserved, you can tell from reading the title. -The organization services only small segment of American women, most of whom can find alternatives. -The statement that 30% of women use PP is proved false. -This source allows my argument to be questioned because the article argues the insignificance of PP. But, there is not much information about what other organizations would be more significant.

Subtopic three: Who does IPPF help most and why?

For subtopic three: Overpopulation in India- Causes, Effects and How to control it? By Rumani Saikia Phukan ***Most of IPP’s money goes to India** The population of India is over 1 billion And will continue to grow until 2050, passing China Two main reasons of overpopulation are birth rate is higher than death rate and the fertility rate is higher than most countries -Early marriage, poverty, illiteracy, want for male child, illegal immigration Overpopulation leads to unemployment, resource utilisation, inequitable income distribution Answers more in depth questions about who planned parenthood helps and why

For subtopic three: Ten Facts About Poverty in India By Priscilla Rodarte **India contains 1/3 of worlds poor** **37 percent of India’s 1.21 billion people fall below the poverty line** **47 percent of children under the age of 3 are underweight** *2.4 million live with HIV AIDS* This article shows the severity of India’s need for assistance

-Exact numbers of money donated to each country in US funding For subtopic three: International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) Funding for Organizations Worldwide, 2008-2015† Exact money to India-$27,956,643 -Exact numbers of money donated to each country in US funding -This source allows me to argue from a financial viewpoint instead of a purely moral viewpoint.

For subtopic three: Fact Check: How Does Planned Parenthood Spend That Government Money? 500 million came from US tax dollars to fund IPPF ??? What I need to figure out- what percent of that comes from each person every year This helps me argue from a financial point especially when I figure out the percentage.
