It could be about their day, a vacation, about their favorite things or a made up fictional story. Spelling: a spelling list will be sent home at the beginning of each week. Log books onto the Weekly reading Log Read aloud to child or have your child read to you using whatever reading materials you have available. School library and classroom books are a great option.

Example of Recording Reading in the Student Planner

How can you help at home? Talk with your child about what we’re learning in school. Keep a routine at home, allowing for a good-night’s sleep and healthy breakfast. A recommended bedtime for a 8-year-old is 7:30 or 8:00. Studies show that developing brains need more sleep to process new information. If they are sick, please keep them at home until they are free from fever for 24 hours. We have one snack time each day. Please pack at least 1 healthy snack for the morning. Students can eat during my afternoon lessons as long as it doesn’t cause any disruptions. Always bring a water bottle.

Contacting Me The best ways to reach me are by sending a note in your child’s Take-Home Folder or through email: kevin-dale@shenzhen.qsi.org Parent-teacher conferences will take place in October.
