Mouse in the Maze Lab # 2

PURPOSE The purpose of this experiment is to learn how controls and variables effect the outcomes of an experiment. You will also learn how to formulate a hypothesis for a question to be studied. Finally, you will learn how to analyze data to draw a conclusion about the experiment.

animals (rat, hamster, mouse) or mazes 4T, 8T, 12T, 16T YOU MAY TEST: animals (rat, hamster, mouse) or mazes 4T, 8T, 12T, 16T

Procedure 1) Choose a rodent to study. MOUSE HAMSTER RAT

Procedure 2) Choose 2 mazes to test EASY HARD 4T 8T 12T 16T

Procedure 3) Choose the outcome to be tested TIME MISTAKES

PROCEDURE: 1) WHAT WILL BE YOUR CONTROLS? 2) WHAT WILL BE YOUR VARIABLES? 3) WHAT WILL BE YOUR TESTING OUT COMES? 4) WHAT IS YOUR HYPOTHESIS?

Procedure 4) The trial cards are in blue. They will be used each time. 1- 39 odd numbers

Procedure 5) To start roll the dice to select one of the 6 outcome cards. 1 2 3 4 5 6

Procedure 6) Place the cards in this order. (Only use one of the maze cards. Start with Trial #1) TOP BOTTOM 5 7 7 1 Read the number that is showing through the hole in the blue trial card. Record the number on your data table

Procedure 7) Repeat the procedure by rolling the dice to select a new yellow card and using the next blue trial card. Be sure to use all the trial cards. 3 9 9 2 Read the number that is showing through the hole in the blue trial card. Record the number on your data table

Procedure: Data Tables MAZE ?T TRIALS VS OUTCOME MAZE ?T TRIALS VS OUTCOME 1 3 5 7 9 11 13 1 3 5 7 9 11 13

Procedure: The graph Use different colors to represent the two mazes OUTCOMES Maze 4T Maze 16T T R I A L S

CONCLUSION Write a short paragraph about your experiment. Be sure to include: Discuss the outcomes. Discuss if your hypothesis is correct. If not explain why. How do your results compare to others in the class?
