What is NOKUT doing? NOKUT answers questions about recognition Regulated professions need compulsory approval/ recognition About 180 regulated professions in Norway The list of all regulated professions can be found on NOKUTS website Check if your profession is regulated: Check which office grants recognition of your profession: http://www.nokut.no/en/Foreign-education/Other-recognition-systems/Regulated- professions/List-of-regulated-professions/

Recognition of a regulated profession - teacher Education from a EU country or not? One example Anja - teacher from Usbekistan (not EU) Solution: First apply recognition from NOKUT, then the Norwegian Directorate of education and Training Omer – teacher from Poland Solution: Apply directly to the Norwegian Directorate of education and Training – not NOKUT ).

Not regulated professions Not regulated professions = recognition not mandatory The employer can decide wether you can be employed E.g. Architect, Engineer, Hairdresser A general recognition from NOKUT can still be useful http://www.nokut.no/en/Foreign-education/NOKUTs-general-recognition/NOKUTs- country-database/

NOKUT’s general recognition of higher education General recognition is the alignment of Norwegian and foreign education. Your education will be evaluated against the Norwegian degree structure, i.e. whether it corresponds to a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree. This recognition does not say anything about the academic content of an educational program. http://www.nokut.no/en/Foreign-education/NOKUTs-general-recognition/Apply- for-recognition/ Documents must be translated into Norwegian or English (Noricom / authorized translator) The recognition procedure can take almost a year.

Specific recognition - higher education Specific recognition is used in connection with the recognition of higher education from countries outside Norway. This means recognition of education so that it can be given equivalence with a specific Norwegian academic discipline/subject or degree. Specific recognition takes place at the academic institution in question. NOKUT does not conduct specific recognition. Specific reckognition may be necessary in the following cases: - If you want to continue your studies at a Norwegian educational institution - In professions where there is a requirement for a specific degree with associated professional title. (Documentation compulsory)

The authorization system for persons withouth verifiable documentation (UVD – system) Whom does the system concern? This procedure is meant for persons with foreign higher education, i.e. education from universities and university colleges, who cannot be granted general recognition due to missing or insufficient documentation. This procedure is directed at refugees and persons in similar situations. How do I apply? First you must apply for a general recognition from NOKUT If your application for general recognition is rejected because of not verifiable documentation, you will be referred to the UVD-system

The procedure of the UVD system You will receive a survey form with guidance regarding how it must be completed. The form must be returned to NOKUT together with documentation on language skills and residence permit. You will be summoned to an interview with two experts who are specialists on your education. Good knowledge in Norwegian or English is important, since you have to answer questions.

Recognition of foreign vocational education and training From the autumn 2016 craft certificates from Poland and Germany may be recognized for the following professions: Plumber Carpenter Concrete industrial worker Hairdresser Meat cutter NOKUT will gradually include new countries and professions, and will try to extend the system during 2017 http://www.nokut.no/en/Foreign-education/Other-recognition-systems/Craft-certificates-and- journeymans-certificates/
