We are here today to talk to you about communication, ways we communicate with each other at work or at home, what barriers we could face, also how we communicate through using body language.

Communication Exercise Drawing exercise – get in to pairs and sit back to back. Pens, and hand-outs. 10 minutes

How do we communicate? Verbal Non – Verbal Written 10 minutes Get into groups and think how we communicate through these channels, use pens and flip chart provided Verbal Communication – Face to face, telephone, radio, Television, Non-Verbal communication – body language, gestures, how we dress or act, Written communication – Letters, emails, books, magazines the internet, media Communication is simply the act of transferring information from one place to another, whether this be vocally (using voice), written (using printed or digital media such as books, magazines, websites or emails), visually (using logos, maps, charts or graphs) or non-verbally (using body language, gestures and the tone and pitch of voice). 

Why is Communication important? Communicate? 10 – 15 minutes In complete silence and without the use of any aids please line up in order of your birth month from January-December…………………………. Stop them before they complete the line up -Can we have one volunteer who is allowed to talk please- now repeat the same exercise A little easier- or is it? Please repeat the task for the final time and you are all allowed to talk be as quick as you can- GO!!

Body language If you are interested in someone that is talking to you, your feet will usually be pointing towards them – even if you’re not actually talking to them. Another way of how we communicate – through body language. Lots of body language gestures are about how others follow a leader. Watch what happens when you cross one leg, put your hand on your chin or move forward in your chair. Others will start to copy you! This technique is often used in interviews – and it can help the candidate to feel more relaxed.

Body language facts . What do you think these pictures say? 1.To show disgust we wrinkle up our noses and raise our top lip this would not be good to in an interview. 2. The smile is universal too. A genuine smile uses muscles around the eyes that we can’t fake. Smiling is welcoming, friendly, good to use when meeting people. makes one likable and more approachable.
