Essential Question: How did whales change over time Essential Question: How did whales change over time? Investigation Question: How do patterns in the fossil record show that whales change over time? Investigation 3: As an animal becomes extinct they become apart of the fossil record. Within the fossil record relative dating informs scientists when they lived. In addition, adaptive radiation displays the patterns of adaptations that are used in the phylogeny to show change over time. Terms: Extinct, Fossil Record, Relative Dating, Adaptive Radiation, Phylogeny

Sequence of Terms Extinct Relative Dating Fossil Record Adaptive Radiation Phylogeny

How do patterns in the fossil record show that whales change over time? Evidence Focus Question 1 How are extinct animals preserved in the fossil record? Terms: Extinct, Fossil Record

How do patterns in the fossil record show that whales change over time? Evidence Focus Question 2 How does relative dating show age of animals in the fossil record? Terms: Fossil Record, Relative Dating

How do patterns in the fossil record show that whales change over time? Evidence Focus Question 3 How does adaptive radiation show patterns in the phylogeny of whales? Terms: Embryology, Adaptations

Exit Slip Write the question and answer in a complete sentence How do patterns in the fossil record show that whales change over time? Claim/Focus questions (HOW): Evidence (WHY): Example (Pics and Vids) (WHAT):
