Acts 13:1-5 1 Now there were at Antioch, in the church that was there, prophets and teachers: Barnabas, and Simeon who was called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, and Manaen who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. 2 While they were ministering to the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” 3 Then, when they had fasted and prayed and laid their hands on them, they sent them away. 4 So, being sent out by the Holy Spirit, they went down to Seleucia and from there they sailed to Cyprus. 5 When they reached Salamis, they began to proclaim the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews; and they also had John as their helper.

1 Corinthians 15:58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your toil is not in vain in the Lord.

How Can We Know God’s Will? As individuals? As a church?

Value #1: The Importance and Influence of God’s Word (Acts 13:1) Now there were at Antioch, in the church that was there, prophets and teachers: Barnabas, and Simeon who was called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, and Manaen who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. If we cannot justify an action, behavior or attitude based upon the word of God, we have no business indulging it, engaging in it, or entertaining it.

Value #2: The Implementation of God’s Revealed Will (Acts 13:2) While they were ministering to the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” Implementation - The fulfilling, the carrying out, the purposing of living according to the revealed plan of God.

How do we implement God’s Will? 1. We must deny ourselves

Romans 8:8 “and those who are in the flesh cannot please God.”

How do we implement God’s Will? 1. We must deny ourselves We must submit ourselves to the Holy Spirit.

“Working” at a Ministry If you are not working at a ministry; at a service for God then you are not serving God.

Value #2: The Implementation of God’s Revealed Will (Acts 13:2) While they were ministering to the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect. – Romans 12:2 1. Steeping your mind in the Word of God

2 Timothy 3:16-17 16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work. (ESV)

Steeping your mind in the Word of God 2. Seeking to apply the Word of God 3. Staging the Word of God in your life

Matthew 12:34-36 34…For the mouth speaks out of that which fills the heart. 35 The good man brings out of his good treasure what is good; and the evil man brings out of his evil treasure what is evil. 36 But I tell you that every careless word that people speak, they shall give an accounting for it in the day of judgment. 37 For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.

Romans 8:8 “and those who are in the flesh cannot please God.”
