Liisa Otsak Martti Voolma Rasmus Saarna Tanel Tursk Water and Earth Liisa Otsak Martti Voolma Rasmus Saarna Tanel Tursk

Introduction Every year in the EU alone, we generate 1.3 billion tonnes of waste. Some 40 million tonnes of it is hazardous. Every single European produces, on average, 1kg of household and similar waste a day. This situation is likely to get worse. By 2020, it is estimated we could be generating 45% more waste than we did in 1995.

How can we save water? Don't let the water run while shaving or brushing teeth Take short showers instead of tub baths Keep drinking water in the refrigerator instead of letting the facet run until the water is cool Wash only full loads of laundry of use the appropriate water level or load size selection on the washing machine Buy high-efficient plumbing and appliances Repair all leaks

Reuse: Reuse boxes Use cloth napkins or towels Use durable coffee mugs Reduce: Buy only what you need Buy products with less packaging Buy permanent items instead of disposables

How can we save the Earth? Turn off appliances and lights when you leave the room Have leaky air conditioning and heating if you can Insulate your home, water heater and pipes Reuse textbooks in schools to save money Use paper grocery bags for wrapping textbooks Put long-lasting, high-quality tires on your car and bicycle

Pollution and Gas Emissions Use public transport to help minimize gas emissions Don't burn plastic and car tires Reduce your heating and electricity use Try alternative electricity devices

Thank you for listening!
