Language Arts Periods 4 and 5 Writing lab Period 6 Ms. Blair, Teacher Room 1108

Background and Personal Information I grew up in California (K-5) and then moved to Washington State. I graduated from Western Washington University. My family and I moved to Nevada for 13 years and we just moved back to Washington last summer. Yay!! I am thankful for the clean air and water, cooler weather, and green trees.

Background and Personal Information I have four children: Lauren is 24 and got married last summer. She graduated from Vanderbilt University and is now beginning graduate school at SPU. Jacob is 21 and is working, playing in a band, and beginning a community college, Caleb is 17 and is a senior at IHS, and Rachel is almost 15 and is in 10th grade this year We also have a dog named Lucy and cat named Jaxon.

My Daughter’s Wedding Last Summer My kids: Caleb Rachel Lauren Daniel Jacob

Our terrier mix dog named Lucy!

It’s Jaxon!!

Jaxon loves his own bed by the window

Background and Personal Information I have been a teacher for five years, and I am very excited to be here at PCMS now. I like to read, swim, play tennis, watch old classic movies, and spend time with family.

High Expectations! I will treat others with kindness. I will try my best to follow directions and ask questions, when needed. I will know that mistakes are an opportunity for me to learn something new. I will learn to communicate and collaborate (work together). I will find out what my strengths are and learn to use them to help me learn and be successful.

Class Procedures Why do we need procedures? Good question. We need procedures so that you know what is expected to help our class run smoothly and avoid unnecessary interruptions. We will have procedures for the following: entering class, asking/answering questions or making comments, beginning of class warm up, sharpening your pencil, getting a tissue, going to the restroom, reporting a problem with another student or teacher, turning in work, and more. A few of these procedures are explained today and some we will discuss tomorrow or in the days ahead.

Our Class Procedures for- entering the room: Before you come through the door, you will lower your voice to your “inside” voice. You will quietly get your materials, sharpen your pencil (if needed), take your seat (without wandering around the room and starting up conversations), and quietly begin your warm up. You will remain seated. Class time is not the time to act silly and have side conversations during instructional time. We will have times when we discuss things more informally as a class, but this is not YOUR time to visit with other students.

Our Class Procedures for- asking/answering a question or making a comment: You will raise your hand without talking at the same time and wait for me to call on you. This will help our class run smoothly and enable us to get the most done each day. Thank you

Our Class Procedures for- We will develop procedures for the rest of the things we need to do in the next few days. The two most important procedures for you to learn first are for: #1) how you enter this room #2) what you do if you have a question or want to say something

No Bullying Allowed

New School District Bullying Rules There is “no tolerance” for bullying. I have been instructed that if I hear anyone bullying another person, I HAVE to report it. There are no exceptions. There is to be no name calling, bickering, arguing, rude comments, etc. or I will report it. You will be called to the dean’s office, your parents will also be called, and they will have to come and have a meeting with the dean. This is very serious. If you are being bullied, please tell me and I will report it.

Classwork or Life Help Classwork help: I am usually available Monday through Thursdays after school for 30 minutes. You need to let me know you are coming or else I might not be here. Life help: I am always available to talk after school if you need someone to listen to you. I care about each and every one of you, and I’m here for you if you need me. Basic skills help: If you need some help with some basic skills that you just don’t feel you understand well enough, I can tutor you after school. You need to let me know

More to come!! We will create our class expectations and consequences (which will include both positive and negative consequences for our behaviors), so be ready with some ideas for our class. These ideas could include: Class expectation list for how we behave/act Consequences for not following our expectations Consequences for following our expectations (like rewards!)

Now let’s get to know each other a bit!! Remember My Name Game Say your first name Tell about your favorite book or book character and why you like the book or character. and/or 3. Tell one word that best describes how you are feeling today so far.

Now let’s get to know each other a bit!! Similarities and Differences Activity Get into groups of three. Talk about yourselves and what you like to do and/or do well. Decide on 3 ways you are ALL alike and write them in center where the three circles intersect. Then each of you take a remaining area of a different circle and write your name in it with 3 facts that are unique to you. Choose a speaker for you group to share your findings with the class.
