Presentation transcript:

AgriProFocus Zambia Making Agribusiness Work for Development Hosted by SNV Netherlands Development Organisation Zambia The AgriProFocus network is a unique multi-stakeholder network representing the Dutch Diamond model in the agri-food sector: Farmer entrepreneurs Private sector enterprises Governments Knowledge institutions Civil society organisations Our ambition is to be the go-to network for innovative entrepreneurs in agricultural value chains, that effectively link agribusiness and development Active in 13 countries in Africa and South East Asia, and linking 22.000 agribusiness professionals worldwide

The Challenges Members of the network are convinced of the need for working and learning together in order to create more impact and sustainable social change Limited cooperation and coordination is a lost opportunity for good efforts to be replicated or scaled –up Limited incentives and finance for pre-competitive (mapping, coalition building) and post-competitive (knowledge management, learning) activities Limited sharing of experiences between stakeholders for learning and developing knowledge on best practices and business models Short term interventions without a clear exit-strategy (‘projects approach’) often do not lead to sustainable change at system level

HOW The AgriProFocus network is not an implementer itself; it brings stakeholders together to strengthen their individual and collective impact. The role of AgriProFocus staff is to facilitate: LINKING LEARNING LEADERSHIP AgriProFocus members work through the network to be able to have access to each others resources, contacts, expertise, tools and knowledge Through the learning activities AgriProFocus facilitates members to explore, create and strengthen opportunities for synergy and joint action Building on evidence based cases, our members jointly shape the discourse at national, regional and global level. Our leadership activities offer members leverage and improved visibility & credibility Inclusive agri-entrepeneurship: Business models that improve the inclusiveness, durability and financial sustainability of relationships between small farmers and agribusiness Climate resilient agri-entrepeneurship: Business models for new products and services to manage and mitigate the effects of a changing climate Circular economy agri-entrepeneurship: Business models on reducing post-harvest losses, using rest- and by-products and recover the materials and energy from used products Nutrition sensitive agri-entrepreneurship: Business models for the production of nutritious foods

AgriProFocus and adoption of technology for young agripreneurs Links to companies/organisations that provide/support technology development (ex.
