Will Germ-x Prevent Bread From Molding? By Landon and Alayna

Purpose The reason we are doing this project is to see if germ-x will prevent mold from happening on bread.

Hypothesis We think that the Germ-x will help prevent mold from happening on the bread because Germ-x takes away germs so the Germ-x will keep the bread from molding, germs is the reason why mold forms.

three small plastic baggies A squirt of Germ-x Materials three pieces of bread three small plastic baggies A squirt of Germ-x Sharpie of any color to label the bags Dirt and germs

Procedure 1. Get a regular piece of bread in a baggie and mark it control. (remember to do nothing to the bread) 2. Rub two pieces of bread on floor to get germs and dirt on the two pieces of bread. 3. Put one of the pieces of bread and mark it bread with germs. 4. With the second piece of bread rub Germ-x on the bread and put in a baggie and mark it bread with Germ-x. 5. Now, wait and see which one molds first in two weeks.

Results Day 1-3 No signs of mold on any of the three pieces of bread Day 3-5 NO change Day 6-8 NO change Day 9-10 We saw a little dot of green on the piece of bread touched by hands

Conclusion The bread touched by hands ended up having a tiny pit of mold on it, our hypothesis partly correct because the bread with the germ-x didn’t mold but neither did control only the bread touched by hands did. If we did this experiment again we would add water at the being of the project.

acknowledgements We would like to thank cooks the for giving us the bread, Mrs. Schaal for giving us the plastic baggies, and most importantly Ms. Larsen for giving us this idea and the Germ-x.
