The Battle of Perryville By: Katie Blair Period:5

The Battle of Perryville The Battle of Perryville, fought October 8, 1862, was also known as Chaplin Hills One of the reasons as to why the war was fought in Perryville was because The Confederates stopped here to stay between the Union army and a supply depot they had established at Bryantsville The Union troops on the left flank, reinforced by two brigades, stabilized their line, and the Rebel attack sputtered to a halt. The Yankees pursued, and skirmishing occurred in the streets in the evening before dark. Union reinforcements were threatening the Rebel left flank by now. The largest battle in Kentucky, Perryville was the "high water mark" for the Confederates in the Western Theater. Never again were the western confederates close to winning the war.
