THE PROGRAMME The apprenticeship programme started in June 2015 We offer a Teaching Assistant & Sports Coaching Apprenticehsip-30 hours per week full time within a partner school. The apprentice delivers a multitude of different subjects such as PE, Numeracy, Literacy, Breakfast clubs, Lunchtime clubs, after school clubs, one to one support, behaviour mentoring & additional support for children with physical and mental disabilities. Learners complete a NVQ Level 2 or 3 Diploma (Supplied by 1st4Sport) in supporting the delivery of PE and School Sport alongside functional skills (if required) and a potential Football Coaching Certificate. The initial apprenticeship lasts for two years with the expectation on the school to offer the apprentice first refusal on any sports coaching positions available. We currently have 40 apprentices in 25 different schools throughout Kent.

STATE OF PLAY STATISTICS As of Tuesday 16th of May 2017 we have 40 Sports Teaching Apprentices in 25 Schools throughout Kent We have a 80% retention rate (the national average is 59%) still engaged with an apprenticeship. 100% of apprentices who started in September have confirmation of the school keeping them on for their second year. 85% of Apprentices are now leading PE lessons with TA support 100% of Apprentices are on course to achieve their relevant qualification 90% of Apprentices have progressed to full time employment within their work placement schools.

PROGRESSION TO QTS We have reached an agreement with a potential partnership with Canterbury Christ Church University to allow our successful apprentices to be able to gain QTS within 4 years of completing their apprenticeship. This will allow the successful candidates to study the following qualifications: Year 1: Level 4 Foundation Degree Physical Education & Physical Activity (PEPA) Year 2: Level 5 Foundation Degree Physical Education & Physical Activity (PEPA) Year 3:Level 6 Foundation Degree Physical Education & Physical Activity (PEPA) Year 4: Assessment only route to QTS
