The website is www.ucas.com How do you apply? Applying for most courses at university is done through an organisation called UCAS The website is www.ucas.com

Year 13 UCAS Calendar for Applications 2016 13th July 2016 First complete DRAFT of personal statement 12th September 2016 Student deadline for Oxford, Cambridge, Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Medicine 7 th October 2016 Student deadline for all applications 15th January 2017 18:00 Final deadline for applications to be with UCAS and to be considered ‘on time’

UCAS Students need to know what their predicted grades are Once the form is completed, your daughter/son “pays and sends” the form, which transfers it to the school system so that we can add a reference. We can’t add our reference until this happens. UCAS charges an administration fee at this point Once we have added the reference, the application is sent to UCAS who send the applications on to the universities your daughter/son has applied to. Unconditional Offers are nice but be careful!

All our students get plenty of advice From Form Tutors, who can help and check personal statements up to the deadline given From Student Managers, who check the accuracy of the application form and contact students individually if there are any errors This should ensure that your son/daughter picks appropriate choices that will result in some achievable offers from university

Current information on finance… This may change! Most universities charge £9000 per year for tuition fees. Students can apply for a loan through the Student Loan Company to pay these fees, as well as a maintenance loan. Repayment does not start until the April after graduation, and only when the student is earning over £21,000 a year. Repayment is based on how much a student earns, not how much they owe, and is 9% of what is earned over £21000. For example, if a student is earning £25000, the repayment would be £360 per year, 9% of 4000 If there is still money outstanding after 30 years, the debt is written off

Apprenticeships www.apprenticeships.gov.uk At any one time there are up to 27,000 apprenticeship vacancies available on the ‘Find an apprenticeship’ site in a variety of careers and industries across England. Visit gov.uk and search ‘Find an apprenticeship’. You can search by keyword (job role, occupation type or apprenticeship level) and by location. Once the right job comes up, your son or daughter can simply register on the website and follow the step by step instructions to apply for the role.

We expect Sixth Form students to take full responsibility for their learning This means: Contributing to discussions and responding to answers in class Ensuring that material learned in class is reviewed at home or in non-contact time Persisting with work when it is difficult and asking for help/clarification when needed Meeting homework and coursework deadlines Using non-contact time productively and attending all private study sessions as required

Improving and learning Students will improve if they are challenged They will all need to be prepared to work hard on difficult work Students will be successful in Year 13 if they work hard to the best of their ability consistently, regardless of how well they achieved at GCSE or AS.

How can you help?
