Presentation transcript:

11/9/11 BR- Please pick up “Presentation Guidelines” with “Project Soapbox Speech Rubric” on the back. Read them over. Today: Preparing Your Speech for Presentation Speeches will begin on Monday, November 14. Hand in Great Speech Analysis for the Obama Speech if you haven’t already.

Where are you at? You should have completed the Rough Draft. Get it back from the “hand back” folder if you haven’t already. You should be thinking about the attention grabbers and powerful closers (get a sheet if you haven’t) you want to put into your speech You should be thinking about rhetorical devices you want to put into your speech

Let’s Read.. “Meets Standard” descriptions for “Delivery” What does a well delivered speech look like? Dramatic pauses Raised volume Dramatic body language (e.g. arm gestures, facial expression) Others? Take a minute to practice your ABC’s Volunteers?

What Next.. Transfer your speech (with all the new parts) to a clean piece of paper. I would suggest tying it out (18 font, triple spaced) Get into pairs or groups of three. Practice giving your speech Offer Comments (“your problem is to big. You don’t really explain why I should care.”

Is this really happening? Yes. You are writing a speech and delivering it in front of the class. If no one reads your speech you can still receive credit but not maximum. (70%)

“But I Can’t Mr. Mac!” Bull. Get up and talk about something that is important to you. Be specific, use the work you’ve done and do your best. Talk for at least a minute but no more than two minutes. You will not die.

Suggestions Time your speech Record it on your phones, play it back (yes, your voice is going to sound funny) Give your speech to your friend, mom, little brother, dog, imaginary friend, teddy bear. Practice facial expressions in the mirror (its weird, but it helps)

Reflection – do now! What are you worried most about? How are you going to prepare
