Nouns Overview A NOUN is a person, a place, a thing, or an idea. Nouns are classified as: Singular or Plural Common or Proper Concrete or Abstract

Singular Nouns A SINGULAR noun is a SINGLE (one) person, place, thing, or idea. - His aunt is ill. - The library is open. - Our team lost. - All hope is lost.

Plural Nouns PLURAL nouns are MULTIPLE (more than one) people, places, things, or ideas. - Our teachers left. - The states are united. - The kittens slept there. - Our freedoms help us.

Singular & Plural Review Write the noun in each sentence. Classify each as SINGULAR (S) or PLURAL (P). A leaf drifted silently down. My older sister is so silly. I desperately need new shoes. The four children were lost. These blue pants are too short.

Concrete Nouns A CONCRETE noun is a noun that can be observed with some or all of the 5 senses. - It can be: seen, heard, smelled, tasted, and/or felt. - It is an object that can be held in your hand or touched with your finger.

Abstract Nouns An ABSTRACT noun is a noun that cannot be observed with any of the 5 senses, and it cannot be held or touched. Any noun that is NOT concrete is abstract!
