Special Quadrilaterals L.E.Q. What are the special properties of all the different types of quadrilaterals?

A quadrilateral has four sides.

Parallelogram Parallelograms have opposite parallel sides

Everyday Parallelograms

Rhombus A parallelogram with 4 congruent sides

Everyday Rhombus

Rectangles Parallelogram where all angles are right angles.

Everyday Rectangles

Square Squares have 4 equal sides and 4 right angles. Squares are regular polygons

Everyday Squares

Kites Kites have 2 pairs of consecutive congruent sides.

Everyday Kites

Trapezoid Trapezoids have one set of parallel sides.

Isosceles Trapezoid A trapezoid whose pair of non-parallel sides are congruent.

Everyday Trapezoids

Example 1: Classifying a Quadrilateral Judging by appearance, classify DEFG in as many ways as possible.

Example 2: Classifying by Coordinate Methods. Determine the most precise name for quadrilateral LMNP.

Example 3: Using the properties of special quadrilaterals. Find the values of the variables for the kite.

Homework: Pgs. 290-291 #s 1 – 26 even.
