Charles County Public Schools Academic Eligibility School Year 2017-18 The following shall apply to all students enrolled for participating in extra-curriculum activities: All athletes including in coming freshman need to eligible. A minimum GPA of 2.25 per quarter. No Failures. Only 4.5 days absences per quarter. Athletes need to be eligible at the start of their season in order to participate. Athletes are not allowed to join the team after the first contest. Ineligibility commences upon issuance of report card at the end of each quarter.

Athletic Forms/Information Needed for Fall, Winter and Spring Seasons Fall Athlete’s parents/guardians will need to fill out our on-line sports packet through: https://stcharleshs-ar.rschooltoday.com/ All athletes need to complete an ImPact Test which is baseline information for concussions. Athletes must have valid record of the online test before they can participate. Impact testing schedule will be scheduled by the coach August 1st - 8th 2017. ImPact tests are valid for 2 years from date of exam.  

Impact Testing Will be scheduled by the head coaches August 1st – 8th The test is computerized and takes about 30 to 45 minutes to complete. All new students, freshman as well as any upper classman (who’s testing has expired) need to complete the testing before they can tryout on August 9th.

Practice / Tryouts Coaches will inform you of the starting and ending time for practices/tryouts. The coaches will notify athletes and parents/guardians of any changes. Parents/Guardians if you have an questions or concerns please contact the head coach to address and issues. You are expected to have transportation home within 15 minutes of ending time. Anyone who stays after school must be supervised. Failure to be in the designated area under supervision will result in your dismissal from the team.

Athlete Responsibility All student-athletes are to lock and secure their valuables. The school, athletic department and coaches are not responsible for lost or stolen items. There are lockers available in the team rooms to secure students’ personal items. All school issued equipment and uniforms must be returned at the end of the season otherwise the athlete will have a debt and not able to participate in school activities until it is cleared.

Communication with Coach The Communication that you should expect from your child’s coach: Philosophy Expectations Locations and times of all practices and contest Team Requirements Procedures should your child be injured during participation Communication coaches expect from parents/guardians: Concerns expressed directly to the coach Notification of any schedule conflicts well in advance Specific concerns in regard to coach’s philosophy and/or expectations

Continued Communication with Coach Issues that are not appropriate to discuss with Coaches: Playing time Team Strategy Play Calling Other Student Athletes The following procedures should be used if there is a concern: Student- Athlete should first discuss concerns directly with the coach. If a parent/guardian still have concerns they should contact the coach to make an appointment. DO NOT confront a coach before, during or after practice or game. These can be emotional times for both the parent/guardian and the coach. If the conversation /meeting did not provide a satisfactory resolution, call and set up an appointment with the Athletic Director.

Heat Stress/Heat Advisories Heat Cramps Heat Exhaustion Dehydration (Water & Salt Depletion) Inclement weather Dressing properly for indoor and outdoor activities, wearing layers drink fluids, bring water and healthy snacks.

Weather Conditions If thunder and lighting can be heard or seen, participants, spectators and staff are in danger. Practices and games must be stopped and everyone needs to seek shelter immediately. There will be a 30 minute waiting period before resuming activities and it has been determined to be safe.

Anyone under seven years old is free and anyone 60 or older with a blue pass are free in Charles County.

Athletic Boosters Next Athletic Boosters Meeting will be in August 22nd at 6:00pm in the Media Center. Athletic Boosters are in need of parents/ guardians to volunteer for at least two event each season. Athletic Booster Membership forms are available at the athletic booster table outside the auditorium. Athletic booster will be offering scholarships to one male and one female senior athlete. Scholarship will be available for Athletes to apply in November 2017
