Session 2 – Mind Maps and Flash Cards Year 11 Support Session Session 2 – Mind Maps and Flash Cards

Objectives To give you some practical strategies to help you to revise To get you to think about HOW you are going to revise To help you to realise that there is not just ONE way for you to revise

How do you revise? What does revision ‘look like’ when you do it? Re-reading your notes over and over again is the LEAST effective form of revision In order to be effective your revision must be ‘active,’ in other words you have to do something with the material. But what?

Mind-mapping – effective?

Mind-mapping – effective?

Mind-mapping – effective?

Mind-maps don’t have to be hand drawn…

Effective mind-mapping On a Computer (1 slide)/iPad or hand-drawn One colour = one section of information Great for – Summarising a topic (e.g. Religion and Family Relationships). Presenting lots of information in a condensed way Allows you to be creative/expressive Take a photo and share it with your mates on the school’s Instagram account (@CTKrevision)

Flash Cards

Flash Cards Can be another effective form of revision Versatile way of revising – Can be used in lots of different ways Can be used repeatedly to revise the same topic – Repetition helps! Can be used to test knowledge Quick and easy way of knowing how you are doing. You are either learning the information or not! Instant results and ‘feel-good factor’ Can be colour coded by topic/subject Electronic or paper copies Learn on the go. Flashcards are small and manageable and can even be used on the bus!
