What is middle school Like? You have 7 classes. You have 7 different teachers. You get lots of new friends! You get so many lunch options (pizza, baked potatoes, salads, sandwiches, chicken nuggets, and normal school lunch)!!!!!!!!! You get to have a locker to put your stuff in!

What classes do I need to take next year? Language Arts Utah Studies Science Math College and Career Awareness Keyboarding (half year) PE (half year) Reading or an Elective – if your student meets the requirements on the reading rubric, they may take an elective course. If not, they need to take reading. PS – We will talk about French Immersion in a few minutes.

Reading Rubric Requirements If your student needs to take reading, you will receive a letter from Sunset Ridge with your student’s rubric scores. We will send these as soon as we have the information from the district. If you have questions or concerns, call the counseling center at 801-412-2485.

Next year’s classes To look at a planning template and see the available elective course options, follow these steps: Go to http://srms.info/ Under the Counseling Center Tab, hover over Credit Information. Click on Course Requests for 2017-2018 School Year. Select the planning template for 7th grade. Course Descriptions are also available here. The google form to request classes will be available online, at the end of the session.

Additional Elective Class Options To make additional room for electives in your student’s schedule, your student will need to complete one of the following options. Summer Online PE through Utah Students Connect ($90.00) Forms will be available in April and your student’s counselor will register them for the course in May. 1st or 2nd Semester Online PE through Utah Students Connect (Free) Forms will be available in August or January and your student’s counselor will register them for the course. Test out of Keyboarding at Sunset Ridge Your student must be able to type 35 words per minute. Contact Greg Hunsaker at Gregory.hunsaker@jordandistrict.org to set up an appointment after school. Choosing Classes Please discuss tonight’s information with your students and help them plan their schedule. Parents/Guardians and students need to go online and choose classes by February 24th. If you do not complete this form, your classes may be selected for you. Course Requests ARE NOT first come first serve! Your student’s final schedule will be available about the middle of August, before school starts.

Be prepared For your information: Not all classes will carry due to the number of requests and teacher schedules. You will rank your top 9 classes and we will build your schedule based on these rankings. Only rank the top 9, Do not rank every course!
