Presentation transcript:

Hebrews 11:7 (NKJV)  7 By faith Noah, being divinely warned of things not yet seen, moved with godly fear, prepared an ark for the saving of his household, by which he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith.

Faithfulness Our theme for 2017 is simply “Faithfulness” We introduced our theme back in January Last month we spoke about the faithfulness of God leading to our faithfulness

Faithfulness Talking about the idea of faithfulness is certainly helpful and necessary What is also helpful is looking at some very real life examples of faithfulness The Bible is loaded with examples for us to learn from

Faithfulness Hebrews outlines those who we often refer to as in God’s “Hall of Faith” There are many character studies we can do there of the heroes of faith Today we do that with one of those characters, Noah

Faithfulness of Noah Noah was a great man of faith that is spoken of in a few different passages Noah was one who showed his faith by his works (Js. 2:14ff) His faithfulness was demonstrated by the things that he did

Faithfulness of Noah Hebrews 11:7 “warned of things not yet seen” It’s not as though this was something that Noah had seen before and therefore could believe as a result II Corinthians 5:7

Faithfulness of Noah “moved with godly fear” This shows the faith, trust and respect that Noah had for God Noah did not sit and contemplate, nor was he slow to act or react to God’s commands

Faithfulness of Noah “prepared an ark” Noah trusted God enough to do all of that work He built an ark that was a massive undertaking, taking him about 100 years to do so

Faithfulness of Noah Genesis 6 v. 8 – “found grace in the eyes of the Lord” God obviously saw the faithfulness of Noah, therefore his grace was upon Noah

Faithfulness of Noah Genesis 7:1 God called Noah righteous before Him It says a great deal about Noah and his faithfulness that God saw him as righteous

Faithfulness of Noah Genesis 6:22 We show and prove our trust in God when we do all that God commands us to do Genesis 7:5 – We once again see the same phrase used showing his obedience and faithfulness

Faithfulness of Noah II Peter 2:5 Noah was called a preacher of righteousness Here was someone who not only practiced what God told him, but he also proclaimed God’s will to others

Faithfulness of Noah All that we read shows us the faithfulness Noah possessed There is a good reason why Noah was mentioned in Hebrews 11 The question ultimately is what do we learn from Noah’s example of faithfulness?

Faithfulness of Noah Do we learn that faithfulness to God can be seen through our actions? Do we learn that we obey God even when we do not understand? Do we learn that we are to do all that God has commanded us to do?
