GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
PSAT The PSAT is a Practice Test for the SAT On average students who take the PSAT do better on the SAT Tests are Given Only Once in October All sophomores took the PSAT on October 19, 2016 Counselors will review the results with the students on February 10th Recommended to take the PSAT junior year as the student may be Eligible for National Merit Scholarship Competition
The ACT Aspire Test Practice ACT Test The Aspire has five sections that align with the ACT Plus Writing subject areas: Reading, English, Math, Science, and Writing Students register in the spring to take the test in the Fall of 2017

The “EDGE” On campus SAT/PSAT prep course Recommended for Juniors and Seniors and Sophomores who have completed Math 2 Offered in Spring 2017 (online registration) and in Fall 2017 (sign up at walk through registration in the fall) Cost $95.00
Community College Requires high school diploma Take the Placement Test in English Benefit: Lower cost than 4 year university Can Transfer after 2 years to 4 Year University “Community College IS College!” Take math all four years College Prep throughout high school
UC Testing requirements Must Take the SAT w/ essay or ACT plus writing SAT Subject Tests are not required, but some campuses recommend that students vying for slots in competitive majors take the test to demonstrate subject proficiency See individual school for recommendations

AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) Who is it for? Students who want to be college and career ready, but aren’t sure where to start AVID uses rigorous curriculum and connects with the community to raise student achievement.
The AVID Student is: Motivated Enthusiastic Willing to work with a group Willing to try new things The AVID Student MAY: Be underperforming (getting around a 2.5-3.7 GPA) because he/she disorganized, struggle with navigating the structure of classrooms/school Have parents who don’t have ability to help with school Be first generation American/college bound. Have extenuating circumstances that make school very difficult (traumatic experience/injury/family structure issues) The AVID Student is NOT Unmotivated and/or entitled Interested in AVID because their parents want them to be
