DMUSD LCAP Update Spring 2015

What is the LCAP? The Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) is an important component of the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF). Under the LCFF all Local Education Agencies (i.e. DMUSD) are required to prepare an LCAP, which describes how they intend to meet annual goals for all pupils, with specific activities to address state and local priorities identified pursuant to EC Section 52060(d). LCAP planned last year, implemented this year Spending plan for how districts will expend resources according to district goals Ties directly to our Strategic Plan – no additional money for Del Mar LCAP must address 8 State priorities (sent as separate attachment)

LCAP Goal 1 Implement and assess a comprehensive educational program based on 21st Century learning skills to educate the whole child. Progress Lead teachers updated benchmark assessments and created units of instruction in ELA Mathematics resources aligned to CC have been purchased for every grade level PLC work is focused on lesson design, including formative assessment, and analyzing student data   DMUSD Strategic Plan Core Strategy No. 1, Educational Program As a district we continue to work on total alignment of our instructional program Standards Assessments Instruction Materials

LCAP Goal 2 Every student will actively use technology to develop 21st Century Skills within a safe and secure digital environment. Progress Pilot programs in K,1, and 2 began this year at three schools and additional classrooms have added iPads Staff is in the process of working with architects to design modern classrooms aligned with 21st century learning goals. Two school sites are involved in the pilot project (CDM and SR) DMUSD Strategic Plan Core Strategy No. 2, Technology DM Heights-1st grade, AF-2nd grade, TH-Kindergarten Several schools have added iPads Working to create environments that support the needs of 21st century teaching and learning. Without constructing a new facility, what changes can we make to our existing spaces? This involves conversations around technology – not just one device per student, but several different devices based on the instructional needs of the teacher and learning needs of the students

LCAP Goal 3 Provide quality professional learning that supports all district employees in providing a nurturing, inspiring, and rigorous educational program. Progress Principals continue their learning about Essential Elements of Instruction All principals and teachers are attending mathematics training Specialists in all areas have been provided with opportunities to attend training specific to their specialty area DMUSD Strategic Plan Core Strategy No. 3, Professional Learning DMUSD is committed to professional learning for all employees EEI is focused on quality of instruction and establishing consistency from school to school and classroom to classroom Not only what’s taking place , but developing a common language around high quality instruction so teachers receive targeted feedback Math continues as an area of focus Writing refresher this year – writing is also an area of focus Specialists attend training in their specialty areas

LCAP Goal 4 Develop a plan to maximize functional use of facilities in support of educational programs. Progress Facilities have been evaluated. A facilities plan with a 5-year calendar, detailing needs and improvements at all school sites, has been created DMUSD Strategic Plan Core Strategy No. 4, Facility Optimization A Facilities Master Plan has been developed A five year prioritization list has been generated based the FMP and is reflective of feedback from individual school sites

LCAP Goal 5 Facilitate communication with stakeholders at every level consistent with our core values to promote our mission and to achieve our vision. Progress Parent/community events have been scheduled at each school Principals hold regularly scheduled principal coffees The superintendent continues to provide ‘State of the District’ updates at each school each year The Superintendent has been communicating to the community via Twitter DMUSD Strategic Plan Core Strategy No. 6, Communication Communication is a top district priority We continue to look for the most effective way to communicate information and engage DMUSD parents and the community at large

LCAP Goal 6 We will provide a safe and nurturing environment that promotes student well-being, engagement, and individual ownership of learning. Progress DMUSD launched an attendance campaign at the beginning of the 2014-15 school year Principals are in the process of updating the Comprehensive School Safety Plan (CSSP) and are receiving input from law enforcement and community stakeholders   DMUSD Strategic Plan Core Strategy No. 8, Student Safety and Well-being We have been focused on encouraging timely attendance each and every day Each school site has a different approach to communicating and reinforcing timely student attendance The CSSP includes not only safety information, but also information on student well being (social-emotional)

LCAP: Additional Actions Identified actions to support low income pupils, English learners, foster youth, and redesignated fluent English proficient students Progress Small class size averages have been maintained Educational software has been purchased including DreamBox mathematics and English in a Flash Every 3-6 grade student has access to a Chromebook and iPads have been introduced in grades k-2 at identified schools as part of a pilot program The pupil groups mentioned in this slide are those targeted by the State DMUSD does not receive any additional funding for these identified students, but are still accountable for providing support which ensures student success Small class sizes continues to be a priority for all district stakeholders and supports the success of all students

LCAP: Additional Actions cont… Progress Teachers are using formative assessments to target students’ instructional needs Professional learning includes information about strategies to support students who are English learners as well as those who are not currently meeting benchmarks Families receive communication via email, Twitter, telephone, Facebook, and websites District parent handbook is translated into four languages Adult ELD classes are available at Torrey Hills School
