Around The World Through Soccer By Genesis Mazolewski-Jones Schoolhouse Journal October 11, 2016
Where Our Story Begins… Here at Western Nevada College(WNC) students in every field strive for excellence, but we are not here to talk about science or art but a sport called Futbol, better known here in the USA as soccer. Coach Ian Hill has started a program here at WNC that not only builds a player’s skill but helps each individual players’ character. In Carson City, NV he is renowned for his recording breaking speech. Ian Hill broke the world record for Longest Speech by speaking for 50 consecutive hours straight. Ian Hill’s program includes both men and women from all walks of life.
Where Our Story Begins… (continued) There will be 3 levels of intensity for all students enrolled in at least 6 classes here at WNC. The Premier League is the toughest and most competitive level; the competitive league is the second hardest level to play in. The third and easiest level to play in is recreational, the recreational league is for players who want to have a good time with each other. Both the men’s and women’s premier team will contain international players from all over the world.
International Players… After the soccer teams train 3 times day 3 days a week they have spent many hours at the Reno-Tahoe Airport awaiting students arriving from Australia, the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Brazil. When Asked what she thinks Student Life Coordinator Lilly Leon-Vicks had this to say” We currently have 12 International and 13 local plus 24 more international and local student still enrolling.” Ian Hill stated that "We're trying to prove that a group of regular kids can come together and build something special" & "A team that takes all shapes and sizes and all abilities, a team built around the principle of love, can still beat a world class team"
Australia In 2012 Australia’s population was an estimated 22 million people. Australia is considered the 6th largest country in the world. Australia’s history of civilization dates back 4500 years. She is home to the largest reef in the world: The Great Barrier Reef. Australia’s sports activity is dates back to when Australia’s’ Melbourne and Sydney hosted the 1956 and 2000 Summer Olympics.
England England’s Motto says Dieu et mon droit (God and my right). According to my sources the population in 2002 was 49,561,800. Located in the capital city of London, big ben and the Buckingham palace are very popular tourist attractions. England played a very important role in what we now know as soccer.
Ireland In 2013 there was an estimated 4.75 million people located in Ireland, one-fourth of that population is located in Dublin, Ireland the Irish capital. Many multinational technology corporations have established headquarters in Ireland. That has caused Ireland to be one of the largest exporters in hardware and software technology. Again Ireland performs very well at the Olympics, especially in boxing.
