Memory of the World 20th Anniversary MoW Warsaw Expert Meeting: 8-10 May 2012 Conference: Memory of the World in the Digital Age, 26-28 September 2012, Vancouver Publication: Memory of the World – launched on 17 October 2012 Exhibition on the railings outside of UNESCO : 17 October- 14 November 2012 MoW Register submissions: - Evaluation of the current round is underway - Preliminary recommendations will be communicated to each nominator by year end - Final decision in June 2013. Deadline for the next round is 31 March 2014
Memory of the World in the Digital Age: Digitization and Preservation Conference 26-28 September 2012 - Vancouver, Canada Hosted by the University British Columbia (UBC) 500 participants from more than 100 countries 180 remote participants Co-organized with WIPO, OIF, IFLA, ICA, UBC, Microsoft and Google Vancouver Declaration is published on the Conference’s website
Open Access Strategy - Implementation Curricula for librarians and researchers – under development Open journal system editor training tools and self-directed learning tools – under development Software that help in creating repositories – in the process of evaluation Global Open Access Portal - constantly updated and evaluated The Policy Guidelines (best case practices): - English (published) - French (in print) - Russian (being translated)
World Press Freedom Day – 3 May WPFD 2012 Main conference: Tunis, Tunisia - Theme: Media Freedom Helping to Transform Societies - Over 700 participants from 88 countries - Half of the participants were Tunisians Celebrations took place in 80 countries WPFD 2013 Theme and venue to be determined
UNESCO/ Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize Members of the Jury Jury comprises 12 independent members representing the six UNESCO regional groups Members – professional journalists - serve for 3 years The DG has appointed new members of the Jury for the period 2013-2016 and has renewed others.
