My Aston Portal: MAP for Students Presenter: Rob Welch

What is MAP for Students? A secure internet based system, available from any computer, in any part of the world, at any time of day or night, 365 days a year. Provides personalised information to the individual student. Allows students to update personal information, and aids communication between students and staff. Aston can give students tasks to complete, for example re-enrolment. Data shown or updated is live SITS data. It will be a central point where information from different systems (Finance,Library etc) can be displayed in one place.

Who can use MAP for Students? Any current student at Aston. Any student who is expected to return. Any applicant who is enrolling at Aston from 1st September onwards, once they have become an unconditional firm (UF) applicant. Any student who has been awarded, but has not yet been conferred. Debtors are currently excluded from using MAP, but sanctions procedure is being reviewed.

What is available on MAP for Students? Re-enrolment (with Enrolment starting from this year). Check and/or change home and contact addresses. Check and/or change emergency contact information. Information about modules student is taking this year. Information about the programme that the student is enrolled on, including next year’s fee information. Links to view teaching and examination timetables. Provisional assessment results where schools have released marks. Graduation Registration. Link to National Student Survey for eligible students. Links to Blackboard and WebCT.

MAP for students – how good is it? By third week of October, 97% of undergraduate students had re-enrolled – previously highest response rate was 65%. Students have viewed their provisional assessment marks over 90,000 times since 7th February 2008. Students have checked and/or changed their home and contact addresses over 8,500 times. Nearly 90% of students invited to the July Graduation Ceremonies have registered their intention to attend. Previously this would be about 35% of invited students.

Coming soon – MAP for Students Results and transcripts. Enrolment. Ability to request standard letters. Single sign on into Blackboard. Sanction messages and financial overview. Peer mentoring. Many, many others!

MAP for Staff - short overview Now open to all staff. Student lookup – Students information, photograph, timetables, modules being taken with assessment details. Module lookup – Module information, list of students taking module (including photographs and e-mail addresses). Degree programme transfers. Easy to use – no training required! Live SITS data.

MAP – The future… The future is MAP! More tasks will be delivered to the students. More information will be available through MAP. One access point to other University computer systems. Students are happy and willing to use MAP, as demonstrated by the statistics gathered this year.
