Since the last CHILA, we are excited to share what we are most proud of…. 300 at 2 community-wide events 100 youth summer camp 50 feed farm to table 30 teenagers hired 30 students/workers bright spots 12 interns sustainable agriculture 2 planning We encourage you to add pictures!!!

A story about something we learned since CHILA1…. Since CHILA 1 we’ve learned that bright spot thinking can dramatically shift and create new opportunities. One social service agency was able to see their ability to respect clients as a new culture for all staff to adopt. We encourage you to add pictures!!!

What we learned about engaging community members with lived experience Taking our message to the streets instead of waiting for people to “come to the table” High school students prefer the term “NEW” food to healthy food Students want to learn about food science as well as growing and eating We encourage you to add pictures!

What we learned about engaging the BROADER community in developing our aim Village Pride is a starting block for community engagement. Some events need to start small and build with “people momentum” and other events can start with a big splash. Insert picture or graph or data here if you would like

Our aim for SCALE is….. EXAMPLE: By Dec 2017, 10% of the children in the Proviso East school district will have improved access to fitness and fresh food, as measured by increased sales and number of available fitness programs in after-school programs.

Driver Diagram Primary Drivers Secondary Drivers Metrics AIM Improve food and fitness access for 10% of children and increase the number add 8 healthy hotspots by end of 2016 Access to affordable fresh food in the community and schools Implement the Giving Garden food selling and donation program to consumers and businesses Increased sales for fresh food donated and sold Increased pounds of food donated and sold Access to fitness in the community and schools Increase the demand for fresh food in the community and schools Support the Mujeres Unidas healthy catering business Support the Proviso East Salad Bar Increase the walking programs in schools and community organizations Increased fitness level for youth using fitnessgram assessments Increased number of available fitness programs Increase the demand for fitness in the community and schools Primary Drivers Secondary Drivers Metrics AIM

Metrics we are considering to our track progress Increase fitness access for 10% of children and youth and add 5 additional “healthy” food environments in the community and schools by December 2017 Improved fitness level for youth using fitnessgram Increased number of available walking programs in community and schools Increased sale of fresh food in community and schools Increased pounds of food grown sold and donated

What we learned from “Switch” Rider: While the emotions are key, the evidence cannot be ignored. Elephant: the importance of reaching the emotional side of an issue Path: all the available options we have to change the path

Top two things we learned from other communities since CHILA1 Don’t wait for people to come to the table, reach people where they are, door-to-door if needed People want to engage in their successes not their failures

Our biggest challenge(s) right now are….. Our biggest challenge is to communicate the possibilities to our new school superintendent and teachers.

We hope to learn this at CHILA2… How best to message our health vision, aim and impact for school partners who work in a chaotic system.
