Support Services for Child Victims of Violence in Estonia, Finland, Slovenia and Spain Short overview of services provided for victims in Slovenia Boris Veler, Nora Institute (logout), project coordinator

Culture of Zero tolerance Republic of Slovenia is constantly striving to built a culture of zero tolerance for violence against children in the workplace, at home/in the family, at school and in other settings. The framework to build a culture of zero tolerance for violence against Children has been set up in all settings, including the legal framework.

Help & Support services In Slovenia, children can seek assistance and protection from different forms of violence and abuse at: Police, Social Work Centers, Health Centres, Crisis Centers for children and adolescents, counseling centers for children, adolescents and parents, and wide range of NGO’s with different specialized programs (help&support&counselling, telephone & electronic helplines, etc..).

Help & Support services Children at risk or victims of violence can also entrust their problems to advisers at schools. In case of violations of their rights, children can also turn to the Human Rights Ombudsman. There are several cost-free help-lines that provide help and counseling to children. In addition, several awareness-raising nods provide relevant information on violence against children and for safe use of the internet. A network of safe points all over Slovenia has been set by Unicef Slovenia.

Help & Support services: Help to the victims of violence in Slovenia is organized regionally as well as locally. Every Slovenian region has formed a Regional service for coordination and assistance to victims.

Help & Support services: This regional service is responsible for: assistance to victims of violence implementation of intervention services 24 hours a day cooperation of organizations monitoring and analysis of the phenomenon of violence in the region The regional service includes:  intervention 24/7 service regional crisis centres regional coordinator for the prevention of violence.

Help & Support services: Centre For Social Work Locally, the key organization dealing with child victims of violence is Centre for Social Work. In the case of child victims of violence, each organization and authority (even police) first have to inform the local center for social work, which then continue to coordinate the treatment of victims. At each center for social work, a multidisciplinary team is formed, which is responsible for:  exchange of relevant information on the case assessment of child at risk, assistance plan and coordination of activities Implementation of plan to support the child

Help & Support services: Centre For Social Work Center for Social Work is obliged to invite all key bodies and organizations into multidisciplinary team, including NGOs. Depending on the nature of the case, different experts and representatives of relevant organizations are, involved in multidisciplinary teams: representative of Centre for Social Work representative of police representative of prosecutor or court representative of Health Organization representative of educational organizations representative of relevant non-governmental organizations The team therefore include all those who in any way deal with child victim of violence.

Help & Support services in Slovenia: Highlighted

Help & Support services: Crisis centres for youth Slovenia has developed a network of ten crisis centres for youth around the country and one crisis centre for children from 0 to 6 years old. All expenses for whole network are paid from national budget. The most common form of abuse that they're confronting in residential groups is peer bullying. They also notice cases of domestic violence – mostly psychological violence and seldom physical or sexual abuse.

Help & Support services: Defender: A voice of the child project Is an example of excellent practice in the broader European area. The basic task of defender is the empowerment of a child, meaning the child acts with all the corresponding rights that she/he has. Child's defender informs a user (a child) about the events that are connected with her/him, and communicates child's needs, viewpoints to relevant organisations. Defender doesn't speak about what's best for the child or youngster; instead she/he makes sure that the child is aware of information regarding her/his life. Children or youngsters can also venture their opinions.

TOM telefon, ToSemJaz.net… Help & Support services: SOS - Helplines for Children and youth in need SOS telephones are managed by NGO's and co financed by the state. They offer information, discussion, support and disburdening to children and youngsters. TOM telefon, ToSemJaz.net…

Help & Support services: Spletno-oko.si (web eye) Spletno-oko.si protects children from injurious information and material transmitted through the media: internet, videos, electronic games… It collects anonymous reports of child pornography and hate speech on the Internet and forwards them to prosecuting authorities. The anonymous report can be given by any Internet user who thinks he has come across child pornography or hate speech on the Internet. The Spletno oko hotline checks the report and if it estimates that alleged illegal content is in question, it reports it to Police.
