WELCOME TO Real-time Assessment Data Collection Workshop by Jeffrey Cousin

3Ps Purpose - show participants how to utilize plickers as a simple tool to collect real-time assessment data without utilizing devices such as clickers. Process - demonstrate how to create an account, create/edit a class, develop questions, and display & interpret reports real-time in the classroom. Products – participants will be knowledgeable about how to set up an account and utilize plickers in the classroom

PLICKER Demonstration

What are Plickers? Plickers is a strongly simple tool that lets instructors gather real-time decisive assessment data without the need for student devices such as clickers. Plicker card number assigned to the student in the class Student’s answer to the question must be displayed at the top Note: Students must display the plicker card number and answer facing you during the scan.

Click on Cards from the top menu to print your plickers cards Plickers Cards Set Click on Cards from the top menu to print your plickers cards Print plickers on light colored or white regular or cardstock paper

Why use Plickers? Customize instruction with instant feedback Engage ALL students in critical thinking Focus more on teaching, less on set-up

How to use Plickers? Distribute plickers card to the appropriate student Log into plickers website on a computer to present questions to the class Display questions using your smartphone or tablet from the plickers app Students will select their answers by holding their plicker card with their answer at the top facing you Instructor will scan the room to collect students’ responses using their smartphone or tablet Review students’ results with the class as a group

CREATE ACCOUNT (CONTINUED) Enter your first name, last name, email, and password. Click on Sign Up

Click on Sign In to log into your account Sign In Account Click on Sign In to log into your account

SIGN IN ACCOUNT (CONTINUED) Enter your email and password. Click on Sign In

Click on Classes to create a class

CREATE A CLASS (continued) Click on Add new Class box Enter class name, year subject and select a color in the prompt box. Click on Save button

Click on class you want to modify MODIFY CLASS Click on class you want to modify

Modify Class (continued) Enter the student’s name and press the enter key Maximum number of students assigned to a class is 63.

Modify Class (continued) Copy and Paste list of the class, arrange class by card number or name, and print Right click in the box of the student to edit, archive, and delete student

Modify Class (continued) Drag the number to another student to change the assigned card

Click on Library to create questions

Create Questions (continued) Click on New Folder to create a folder to add questions.

Create Questions (continued) Enter folder name and click on save

Create Questions (continued) Click on the New Question button to create a question in the library Click on the x to close the Question Queue section You can manage your folders on the left panel in the library You can remove a question from the queue by selecting the class and clicking on the x next to the question

Create Questions (continued) Click on add image to insert a picture for a question.

Create Questions (continued) Double click on the image you want to add for your question.

Create Questions (continued) Click on X to remove the image.

Create Questions (continued) Type your question, select question type (multiple choice or true/false), enter choices up to 4, correct answer, and click on save. Note: Also, you can copy and paste your question from MS Word.

Create Questions (continued) Select a class for this question.

Create Questions (continued) The class that you selected will appear.

Click on this icon to edit, archive, or delete a question Modify Question Click on this icon to edit, archive, or delete a question

Click on Live View to display questions for the class

Display Questions (continued) You must bring up the plickers app on your smartphone or Android or IPad tablet, select the class, and which question you want to display. You must scan the students’ response to your question using your smartphone or Android or IPad tablet.

Display Questions (continued) Use these 2 icons to make the question’s font bigger or smaller.

Display Questions (continued) You can Show panel or Hide panel. This screen displays show panel mode. On the Students’ tab, you can reveal answer or hide answer by student. This screen displays reveal answer model. This screen shows which students answered the question correctly (green) and incorrectly (red).

Display Questions (continued) On the Graph tab, you can reveal answer or hide answer for the class.

Display Questions (continued) This screen shows number of correct (green) and Incorrect (red) responses for the class.

Reports Click on Reports and Question History to view the class responses for multiple questions

Reports (continued) Percentage answered correctly for each question. You can either archive or delete a report by clicking on this icon. Number of correct and incorrect responses for each question. You can select a class to view summary data for all questions by class.

Reports (CONTINUED) Click on Reports and Scoresheet to view the students’ responses for multiple questions

Maximum custom range is one month Reports (continued) Select class, click on date field to select week or custom range, and then click on Apply to view responses and results by student Maximum custom range is one month

Click on Export to download data as csv file in Excel Reports (continued) Click on Export to download data as csv file in Excel

Double click to open file or right click and select Save. Reports (continued) Double click to open file or right click and select Save.

This excel file can be used for grading further analysis and insights. Reports (continued) This excel file can be used for grading further analysis and insights.
