Signs of a Chemical Change

What is a Chemical Change Definition: A change that alters the identity of a substance resulting in a new substance or substances with different properties.

Signs of a chemical Change There are 4 signs to look for that signal a chemical change may have taken place: Color Change Temperature Change Formation of Gas Formation of a Precipitate

Color Change Everyday examples include: A banana turning brown as it ages Burning things turning black The chemicals in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ad-C2xz5D4c Other examples? Adding color coloring to water is not a chemical change. Why not?

Temperature Change Everyday examples include: Activating an icepack Causing something to explode (due to heat) The chemicals in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GQkJI-Nq3Os Other examples? Freezing water into ice is not a chemical change. Why not?

Formation of a Gas Everyday examples include: Mixing baking soda and vinegar Smoke made when things are burned The chemicals in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5q5bzHckSIM Other examples? Boiling water is not a chemical change. Why not?

Formation of a Precipitate Solid particles that form or separate out of a liquid Everyday example: Adding lemon to milk (or letting milk to get old and curdle) The chemicals in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2EQznGPZY5A
