Using MIS 10th Edition Part 3 Using IS for Competitive Advantage

Augmented Reality Exercise System (ARES) ARES allows users to bike holographic routes with friends in a virtual environment. ARES collects and integrates user data from AR headsets, stationary exercise bikes, and fitness bands. ARES then allows users to share their data with friends, trainers, and employers.

Augmented Reality Exercise System (ARES) (cont’d) Zev Friedman, the owner of ARES, purchased an early prototype of the system from his cardiologist. Helped Flores treat his patients. Wasn't being adopted outside of Flores’s own medical practice. Zev was watching the emergence of augmented reality and thinking about potential applications.

Cast of Characters Zev, a successful entrepreneur, bought the company for a small amount of cash and a royalty agreement with Flores. Ashley Turnwood, new general manager. Cassie Castellon, marketing professional. Henri Kivi, technology manager. Raj Agarwal, augmented reality guru.

Why Study the ARES Case Future business professionals need to be able to assess, evaluate, and apply emerging information technology to business. ARES system will allow you to practice that key skill.

Next Three Chapters Chapter 7 discusses processes and overall enterprise and inter-enterprise processes and information systems. The benefits and challenges of creating such information systems are addressed. Chapter 8 addresses social media information systems. The role of such systems, their basis for creating revenue and their risks are considered. Chapter 9 deals with business intelligence systems. Beneficially applying business intelligence tools to the large amount of data that an organization possesses is addressed.
