The finnish golden age

The Golden Age of Finnish art, or gold for a period called the years 1880-1910, when the Finnish art was created by a national expression, and it rose to the international level. Gold Season ranked at the same time the repressive periods with and national awakening. The main character was the era of Akseli Gallen-Kallela and other top artists, among others, Pekka Halonen, Albert Edelfelt, Jean Sibelius, Eino Leino, Schjerfbeck and Eero Järnefelt. Artists began to describe his works, his homeland, its people, nature and history; they taught the Finns to discover the beauty of their own country.

During the turn of the last century National Romanticism was born in works of art, which is why the appointment of Finnish art golden period. All art classes created works that were inspired by national sources, above all the Kalevala. These works of art are still the cornerstones of Finnish art. The most important artist of Kalevala-themed sculpture was Emil Wikström. He carried out the Kalevala themes in particular, many public works.

Eero Järnefelt, Pyykkiranta (1889)

Hugo Simberg (The Wounded Angel, 1903)

The Wounded Angel (Finnish: Haavoittunut enkeli) (1903) is a painting by Finnish symbolist painter Hugo Simberg. It’s one of the most recognizable of Simberg’s works, and was voted Finland’s “national painting” in a vote held by the Ateneum art museum at 2006. The atmosphere is melancholic: the angelic central figure with her bandaged eyes and bloodied wing. The sombre clothing of her two youthful bearers. The direct gaze of the right-hand figure touches the viewer.

Helene Schjerfbeck (Toipilas 1888)

Toipilas (English: Convalescent) is Helene Schjerfbeck oil painting on canvas dating back to 1888. It was exhibited for the first time the Paris salon show in the French-speaking at Première verdure. The painting is described as a little girl who sits around the table and weathered white pillow’s cushioned rattan chairs. Convalescent Girl holding hands on the table sprouting branches, which some consider to refer to overcoming the disease. The work emphasized a description of light, and the brushwork is vibrant. Coming from two sides bright light make white clothes and the table is reflected in the glass objects.
