Climate Change: Multiplying Threats to National Security

The Globe’s warming climate will complicate America’s efforts to protect national security “We are talking about energy insecurity, water and food shortages, and climate-driven social instability. We ignore these threats at the peril of our national security and at great risk to those in uniform.” – Former Sen. John Warner (R-VA) Oct. 28, 2009

The U.S. Armed Forces are taking steps to prepare for the impacts of climate change on national security “Energy efficiency can serve as a force multiplier, because it increase the range and endurance of forces in the field an can reduce the number of combat forces diverted to protect energy supply lines.” – Quadrennial Defense Review Report, Feb. 2010

The Armed Forces need Federal support to prepare for a warming world “Right now, we are drifting in to unchartered waters. This is not the time to either wait for 100% certainty or simply hope our environment is not changing.” – Genrl. Gordon Sullivan, Former U.S. Army Chief of Staff, Feb. 12th, 2009
