Curriculum Language Arts Science Social Studies Health The above subject areas are integrated. Math - Math Makes Sense * Technology integrated throughout all subjects. Leveled Books Students will be reading and taking books home that are at their reading level. The level your child reads at will be determined through reading records. This assessment is completed on an ongoing basis. Not all students will be reading the same level book at the same time.

Homework Grade One

Food Orders Please inform your child the night before if they have a food order. This will help with the process on Friday. Food Orders Please remember that orders for food items are taken on Friday by 10:30 am. If your child is sick, the order needs to be called into the office before 10:30 am on Friday. If that Friday is a holiday, it will be taken on Thursday. Orders will not be taken if the order form and Subway form are not present. Please make sure the correct amount of money or cheque is sent in. Order forms can be obtained on our website along with the food options for the month. (www.edu.pe.ca/glenstewart).

Lunches Peanut Free School ( No nuts of any kind! ) A Treat Day sign up sheet is being passed around. If you are interested in bringing in something, please sign. Some suggestions for treats include the following: vegetable or fruit tray, Skittles, Maynards and drinking boxes. Our class has some allergies so a phone call or an email prior to bringing in a treat would be helpful to ensure that all students are able to enjoy! I may be able to provide some appropriate suggestions.  Microwave – Students can reheat items from home. Please have proper containers. Microwave frozen meals will not be accepted due to time constraints.

Additional Information Scholastic A book club order form will be sent home each month. This is optional! The first one will be in October. Bus Notes If your child is going to be traveling on a different bus, a note from home is required. If a note is not present, the child will be sent home on their normal bus run. Kleenex We will have many sniffles throughout the year so if every child could supply the classroom with a box of tissue it would certainly be a great help. Breakfast Program The breakfast program is open each day from 8:15 – 8:25.

Additional Information Literacy Support Our Literacy support teacher works with students in a small group setting. Supporting classroom teaching is the goal of literacy support. Mrs. Miller is our literacy support teacher. Literacy support has a revolving door focus in that the students who need it most will receive it which means the students who participate in this program are changing often. Illness If your child is absent from school, please email me or call the office and report your child’s absence. Punctuality and Attendance Our school day begins at 8:25 am. Please have your child in the classroom and ready to start the day at this time. When students arrive in the morning they will remain outside in the front playground until the bell goes at 8:20. Students do NOT come into the school prior to this bell unless the weather is inclement. Additional Information
