In the Jewish calendar...

The 4 spring In the Jewish calendar... feasts point us to the first coming of Jesus

In the Jewish calendar...

to the second coming of Jesus In the Jewish calendar... The 3 fall feasts point us to the second coming of Jesus

The Feast of Trumpets (Rosh Hashanah) is a wakeup call to repent

Sound the trumpet in Jerusalem. Raise the alarm on my holy mountain Sound the trumpet in Jerusalem! Raise the alarm on my holy mountain! Let everyone tremble in fear because the day of the Lord is upon us. Joel 2:1 (NLT)

In the Bible the shofar was used for three different purposes:

1. To gather God’s people for an assembly In the Bible the shofar was used for three different purposes: 1. To gather God’s people for an assembly

In the Bible the shofar was used for three different purposes:

2. To sound an alarm alerting people of danger In the Bible the shofar was used for three different purposes: 2. To sound an alarm alerting people of danger

In the Bible the shofar was used for three different purposes:

3. To announce the coronation of a new king In the Bible the shofar was used for three different purposes: 3. To announce the coronation of a new king

The Lord said to Moses, “Give the following instructions to the people of Israel. On the first day of the appointed month in early autumn, you are to observe a day of complete rest. It will be an official day for holy assembly, a day commemorated with loud blasts of a trumpet. You must do no ordinary work on that day. Instead, you are to present special gifts to the Lord.” Leviticus 23:23-25 (NLT)

The Feast of Trumpets begins the Days of Awe – the 10 days leading up to the Day of Atonement

then come and offer your gift. If you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother or sister has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to them; then come and offer your gift. Matthew 5:23-24 (NLT)

How does this feast point us to Jesus and his return?

It points us to the day when God himself will blow the shofar.

Zechariah 9:14 (NLT) The Lord will appear above his people; his arrows will fly like lightning! The Sovereign Lord will sound the ram’s horn and attack like a whirlwind from the southern desert. The Lord of Heaven’s Armies will protect his people. Zechariah 9:14 (NLT)

On that day, all of God’s people will be raptured up to meet him in the sky.

1 Thessalonians 4:15-17 (NLT) We tell you this directly from the Lord: We who are still living when the Lord returns will not meet him ahead of those who have died. For the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a commanding shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet call... (cont’d) 1 Thessalonians 4:15-17 (NLT)

1 Thessalonians 4:15-17 (NLT) ...of God. First, the believers who have died will rise from their graves. Then, together with them, we who are still alive and remain on the earth will be caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. Then we will be with the Lord forever. 1 Thessalonians 4:15-17 (NLT)

But let me reveal to you a wonderful secret But let me reveal to you a wonderful secret. We will not all die, but we will all be transformed! It will happen in a moment, in the blink of an eye, when the last trumpet is blown. For when the trumpet sounds, those who have died will be raised... (cont’d) 1 Corinthians 15:51-53 (NLT)

1 Corinthians 15:51-53 (NLT) ...to live forever. And we who are living will also be transformed. For our dying bodies must be transformed into bodies that will never die; our mortal bodies must be transformed into immortal bodies. 1 Corinthians 15:51-53 (NLT)

That terrible day of the Lord is near That terrible day of the Lord is near. Swiftly it comes—a day of bitter tears, a day when even strong men will cry out. It will be a day when the Lord’s anger is poured out—a day of terrible distress and anguish, a day of ruin and desolation, a day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and blackness, a day of trumpet calls and battle cries. Zephaniah 1:14-15 (NLT)

So...

So... 1. Wake Up!

Matthew 24:40-44 (NLT) That is the way it will be when the Son of Man comes. Two men will be working together in the field; one will be taken, the other left. Two women will be grinding flour at the mill; one will be taken, the other left. So you, too, must keep watch! For you don’t know what day... (cont’d) Matthew 24:40-44 (NLT)

...your Lord is coming. Understand this: If a homeowner knew exactly when a burglar was coming, he would keep watch and not permit his house to be broken into. You also must be ready all the time, for the Son of Man will come when least expected. Matthew 24:40-44 (NLT)

Repent and turn to me again Repent and turn to me again. If you don’t wake up, I will come to you suddenly, as unexpected as a thief. Revelation 3:3 (NLT)

Romans 13:11 (NLT) Time is running out. Wake up, for our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. Romans 13:11 (NLT)

So... 1. Wake Up!

So... 1. Wake Up! 2. Wake somebody else up!
